Some of my liberal friends give me guff for voting third party. They should now understand why they should, too. Actually, they should understand why we're never going to vote our way out of this.
America is dying.
The president's new policy making vaccines compulsory reminds me of MN Gov. Walz's attempts to quell unrest after Daunte Wright's killing some months back. The gov. tried to get top-down tough with a curfew that served to motivate the protests by making their demonstrations even more of a statement.
Similarly, Biden's attempts to coerce Americans who are yet to get vaccinated will harden their resolve, and perhaps worse, it continues down the road of pitting Americans against each others, speaking of "the unvaccinated" the way old generations used to speak of "the gays".
America was never going to tackle COVID successfully in a top-down fashion. We're a bottom-up country, and grew to be the biggest and strongest ever because of it. This does indeed have its disadvantages. When there's a need for unity, the country struggles--particularly these days when the internet has polarized our country. It may be tempting to try and wrangle everyone under one policy when seeing successes in other countries such as Denmark (who've just removed all COVID restrictions). But unfortunately, that's not our game, and attempts to unify are awkward, offensive, and ineffective. And that's being generous.
Given the corporate-political corruption and the lack of integrity from the White House and the whole politicization of the COVID saga, one has to wonder how much of this driven by nefarious motives.
Regardless of motives, though, far-reaching, egregious policy has the short term effect of power abuse and the long term effect of degredating political institutions. Thus, America is in descent.
