When we were young, there was not much of a trend for ready-made clothes in the market. Only in some big cities and big shops and showrooms, readymade woollen clothes were available, which were out of the reach of the ordinary man.
My mother was very fond of weaving woollen clothes with her own hands. Every year, before the arrival of winter, she used to buy different types of coloured wool from the market to weave something for all the members of the house and then used to find them from books and prepare their designs.
All the members of the house used to wear their own-made sweaters, cardigans, caps, socks, gloves, inners, etc. with great love. My mother was so fond of knitting that sometimes, at the request of a friend, she would weave sweaters etc. for him too.
Because of this hobby, once my mother's friend asked my mother if she wanted to wear a sweater with a cap on her head so kindly weave for me this type of sweeter. My mother told her that if she showed me some samples, I would try to weave the same.
In those days, such sweaters were not available on the market at common shops. Nor were their designs, etc., available on any computer, so her friend could not show any samples.
Then my mother came up with a design of her own and spent about 20 days working hard to weave a hat and a sweater, and then sewed the two together.
The new sweater that was prepared in this way was very beautiful and comfortable. Wearing it could protect the body as well as the head and neck from the cold.
Nowadays, these types of sweaters are sold a lot in the market and now people know them as hoodies.
