Hello, beautiful people of Hive!
I am glad to join this week's contest on weather and seasons by @thekittygirl. This is a topic that touches everyone because we all experience changes in the weather.
If you have been paying attention lately, you will notice how extremely hot it has become. I can still remember complaining about the cold a few months ago, but if you ask me to choose between extreme cold and heat, I will choose the cold any day! Because it can be managed with blankets and logic.
The heat is difficult to deal with, especially during the summer when the sun shines so brightly. I believe people who have a steady power supply and air conditioning may find this season easier to manage. For those of us without these comforts, it can be a real struggle.
One of the most difficult things about extreme heat is sleeping at night. Few nights ago, I had to leave my bed and sleep on the floor because the room was too hot. Sometimes, you keep turning from one side to the other, hoping to find a comfortable position, but the heat just won't let you rest.
What I Do to Make the Heat Bearable
The first thing I did was fix my solar generator. The panel was no longer supplying power to the inverter, and I was advised to replace it which I did in Lagos, Alaba. At least, getting it fixed has helped us find a way to manage the heat at night.
However, before we can enjoy the comfort of our fans indoors, my family and I have to find another way to cope with the heat in the evening.
From around 7 pm to 11 pm, we stay outdoors because the air feels a little better outside. We bring out our beds and make sure everyone has a mosquito net. The children have theirs, and I have mine too. After all, we don't want to escape the heat only to become food for mosquitoes!
At around 11 pm, we move everything back indoors. It takes some effort to move everyone and arrange things again, but we have to do what we can to get some rest.
By then, I switch on my solar inverter, open all the windows to allow air to flow through the rooms, and set the fans to medium speed.
The good thing is that my solar system can power all the fans in the house, including the ones in the children's room and my own room, for about five hours. This gives us some comfort while we sleep.
So, this has been our strategy for managing the heat. I have thought about buying an air conditioner, but the cost is far above my budget for now. I will have to make do with what I have until I can afford one.
A Little Concern for Others
This hot season is also a time to check on one another, especially if you have grandparents or elderly people to care for. Extreme heat can be difficult for them to cope with, so we should pay attention to their comfort and make sure they stay hydrated.
People who live close to bushes should also be careful when staying outdoors at night because of the possibility of encountering snakes and other dangerous animals. Honestly, I hate snakes, so that is another reason to be careful!
Despite all these challenges, we keep finding ways to make life more comfortable with what we have. Hopefully, the weather will become cooler soon, and we will all be able to enjoy a good night's sleep again.
Thank you for reading my post. Do have a lovely week, everyone. Love you all! ❤️
