Happy new week, Ladies of Hive!
This week’s contest topic is about a lavish masquerade party. We are asked to imagine attending this party and choosing a historical figure, famous artist, author, or fictional character to dress as. Interesting, right? So, who would I choose?
Before I answer that question, let me share a little story about my childhood.
When I was a child, I was really afraid of masquerades. Whenever I saw one coming, I would run straight back home! In fact, I remember one occasion when I unexpectedly came across a masquerade and almost ran into a moving motorcycle while trying to escape. Looking back now, that was quite a scary experience for me.
As I grew older, I began to understand that masquerades were often people wearing costumes and masks. That helped me overcome some of my childhood fear, although I still respect the traditional and spiritual beliefs associated with masquerades in different communities.
Now, back to the main question. If I received an invitation to the Ladies of Hive masquerade party, I would choose to dress as Mulan!
Who Is Mulan?
Mulan is a fictional heroine from Disney's 1998 animated film Mulan, which is inspired by the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan.
In the story, the Chinese emperor orders one man from each family to join the army to defend the country against invading forces. When Mulan realizes that her elderly father may have to go to war despite his poor health, she decides to take his place.
She disguises herself as a man, takes her father's armour, and joins the army. Although she faces many challenges, she shows courage, determination, and strength. Through her actions, she earns the respect of her fellow soldiers.
That is one thing I admire about her. She did not allow fear or the expectations of society to stop her from doing what she believed was right.
Why I Would Choose Mulan
Although I am not Chinese and have never visited China, I believe we can learn valuable lessons from people and stories outside our own culture. Our backgrounds may be different, but courage, sacrifice, and determination are qualities we can all appreciate.
For me, Mulan represents courage. She was willing to take a difficult step to protect her father, even when she knew the journey would not be easy.
Her story also reminds me that women are capable of doing great things, even when society expects less from them. A person's ability should not be judged simply by whether they are a man or a woman.
This is one message I would love to share with the women at the Ladies of Hive masquerade party. We all have dreams, goals, and challenges to overcome. Sometimes, the only thing standing between us and the next step is fear.
We may not all be going to war like Mulan, but we face our own battles every day. For some women, it may be starting a business. For others, it may be returning to school, learning a new skill, speaking up for themselves, or pursuing a dream that others do not believe in.
Whatever our individual challenges may be, we need courage to keep moving forward.
If I walked into that masquerade party dressed as Mulan, I would not just be wearing a costume. I would be representing the courage to stand up for what matters, even when the odds are against us.
Thank you for reading my post. Have a lovely week, everyone!
