I Do Not Like That Look
I do not like that look.
Those glazed over eyes
Set in a ridged frame
Too scared to allow
Any sliver of reality to
Pierce through and shine
Daylight.
You buried something
In your backyard.
Don't you remember?
It must have held something
Important to you,
For you to work so hard
To hide it.
The wheels are turning
But they show no progress.
Pinwheels that
Spin and spin and spin
Till you are just nigh
Of madness.
No, I do not like that look.
It holds anguish deep beneath
The pores of your skin.
Have you not looked
For what you buried?
The air is thick and stale
In an old house,
As though it has existed
In that spot for too long.
Open a window,
Let fresh cleansing air
Flood the place or
Someone may burn that
House down.
No, I do not like that look.
