Behold my friends, a statue dedicated in my honour! For the people of Perth long so much for my return that they built this statue! 馃槈馃榿
Okay, maybe that's not correct.
This is the stature of the Scottish historical novelist, poet, playwright and historian, Sir Walter Scott!
Born in Edinburgh, 1771, and croaked at Roxburghshire in 1832.
Writer of such works as The Black Dwarf (1816), Rob Roy (Not the wrestler), Ivanhoe (1820), The Pirate (yaaaar har fiddle dee), and the Fair Maid of Perth ( inspired by the Battle of North Inch, 1396). Personally, I am not that fond of his works but many others loved what he wrote.
He also met another 'famous' Scottish writer. The famous Robert Burns, aka Rabbie Burns aka the guy who we have a meal and get drunk over on the 25th of January.馃榾
Perth (Scots Gaelic: Peairt) is an old town, that thinks it's a city. The original settlers arrived in prehistoric times, Mesolithic hunter/gatherers who arrived there more than 8,000 years ago.
Sadly, like a lot of places in Scotland, it has great potential for tourism but that potential needs investment. Lots of wonderful countrysides and history nearby but it can be difficult to find for the average person.
Perth is where I completed my first Degree in Aircraft Engineering. Today was the first time I was there since I graduated in 2010. It was weird, like walking through old memories expecting to see old friends. Guys who were close friends that I no longer see. Kinda a sad feeling. But such is life," the past haunts us, the present confuses and the future frightens us"馃槷
MRI's and wtf I was doing in Perth
I was in Perth to get an MRI Scan. Well, a couple of Scans. Unfortunately, the MRI did not give me superpowers like Magneto but it took less than 30 mins. The staff were comforting, the experience was weird, and the weather was crap. But I survived.
An MRI (Magnetic resonance imaging) uses a magnetic field and radio waves to generate high-resolution images of the body, typically use "to examine internal body structures and diagnose a variety of disorders, such as strokes, tumours, aneurysms, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis and eye or inner ear problem"
Recently, there has been a colossal explosion in A.I research which will enable far superior diagnoses from MRI and X-rays, to the point where it is now exceeding the capabilities of humans. I predict, that the next decade will see a medical renaissance, brining far superior treatments to mankind, because of A.I.
A company called Cerebras, recently released the largest silicon 'chip' ever of 46,225 mm square, containing over 1.2 trillion transistors, with an architecture optimized for deep learning workloads. Compared to the Largest GPU of 21.1 billion transistors at 815mm.
Effectively bringing a quantum leap in hardware capabilities for A.I.Which has followed a recent trend of advancement in the sector.
Elon Musks group, OpenAI stated that, "between 2012 and 2018, the compute used to train the largest models increased by 300,000X." Effectively, AI computing is growing 25,000X faster than Moore鈥檚 law at its peak.
A colossal advancement, bringing A.I into everyday use, benefiting humanity... Or leading to our destruction. 馃槗
Alas, that would be a post for another day.
Speaking of Posts. I am going to give HF21 a few weeks longer before I decide what I am going to do with Steem. Steemit for me wasn't about money, but engaging with others, writing posts outwith my normal field. However, since hf20 and HF21, I've noticed a change in culture and user interaction, a change which I fear is to the detriment of Steemit. A drop in user interactions, whcih was great at the start but now is just a trickle. On Minds, I've received hundreds of thousands of views and thousands of votes for literally a handful of posts this year, whilst on Steemit I am lucky to get 5 votes, and at times can downvote negating any benefit. 馃槩
I use to write a lot more indepth posts which received little traction, typically I now write short posts with actifit aimed as a wee challenge for myself as to write something unscripted on my phone, and to keep up with the fitness.
So, I am undecided as of yet. Maybe things will settle down, maybe my content is just pure and utter bat shit. Only time well tell what happens
However, I am thinking about returning to writing for Magazines in the near future. Maybe its best to write for that, and minds, whilst posting short posts here?
Fitness aka the point of this actifit post
All in all, I lost track of how far I walked today. But... I walked a long bloody way. I am going to guess about 8 to 10 miles, mainly consisting of walking up hill as everywhere in Scotland seems to be up a bloody hill.馃樀
Typically I aim to walk at a speed of at least 4mph. Nothing much to really say beyond that. I put on my shoes after I put on my clothes.
Opened front door, locked it, then walked. If you do plan on going for a long walk, always make sure you have two layers of socks on, good shoes/boots, plenty of water and that you don't fall of a cliff or get ran over! Death can make a good walk turn rather unpleasant.馃樀
So, I am going to wish you all a good night and I hope that you have a fantastic Friday night 馃槉
