The Journey Of Happiness

Happiness is something everyone in the world is pursuing, we all want that state in life where we have peace, have everything in place, and are scared of nothing.

One beautiful thing I love about humans is our uniqueness. What appeals to Mr A might not be appealing to Mr B. I understood recently that people get happy most times when their desires are fulfilled. Being that we have diverse desires and expectations, the definition of happiness can vary from person to person.

Life is designed in such a way that it never gives optimum satisfaction, it's just so impossible to have anything to the fullest. Nothing ever satisfies for long, the more you have, the more you crave for a bigger one, things easily fade in the eyes of men, not just material things even immaterial things.

It sounds bad but to some extent, I think it's a beautiful thing. If we can have the fullness of whatever we desire in life, wouldn't life be so boring? There won't be any adventures, we would just be stuck in one place and probably abuse them because we won't see their worth.

The most important things in life are never given in full, we can only acquire a measure once in a while as we keep moving. Take love for instance, it's one of the most important things in life but we can't get it all in a day, love grows from one stage to another. As you journey with those you love, you discover that at a point it either grows or reduces, it's a journey, it's not something that one can just say "Okay I have attained," it's the same with happiness.

It's something that we can't just get at a time, it's a journey, as you move from one level to another you attain a measure and that's how it keeps going till we breathe our last.

If happiness were a destination, many people would have arrived there, and trust me, apart from the fact that most people would be cheated, none of us would have valued it. Happiness is not something one just sits and wishes for, it's something we deliberately and willfully build for ourselves.

And you know that building is a continuous process, you keep going from one level to another, the difference here is that for happiness, there is no end. It is a journey that we will keep pursuing till the day we leave this world.

Sometimes, I hear people say "I am depressed," "I can never be happy," "I am looking for happiness" and so on. It amazes me, that happiness is not lost, it is inherent in all of us, it's like a seed planted in the garden of our hearts waiting for us to grow it. If you neglect it will wither and if you tend it, it will grow. Everyone has the potential to be happy, but you have to make the choice.

I would love to conclude with this, happiness is costly but free. It takes a decision to embark on the journey and a decision to keep it going. It's not something we come by or grow into by chance or mere wishes, we work it.

Just as you know to embark on a journey, certain things need to be in place like money for both your upkeep and transportation, you also take the risk of endangering your life on the road, the patience it will take to wait till you arrive your destination, the inconvenience and so on, that is how the journey of happiness is too. It's not all sweet, some points are bitter. The good news is it takes both the good and the bad experiences to birth true
happiness.
