I have come across countless posts about hive hitting the $1 mark earlier today and had second thoughts about sharing mine. Well it seems like a waste of a perfectly good opinion, so I guess I might as well talk about it.
Hive hitting the $1 mark is significant. It might not be the doorway to $10 as some people have put it, but it is significant for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, it shows the impact of what any successful in-house project in the hive chain can do for the entire value of hive. One of the major propellers of the $1 valuation has been the success of splinterlands. Imagine if we had multiple projects with that level of success (and we're getting there with leofinance), what it would mean for the entire space.
Splinterlands as a project hasn't even peaked yet, and that's something to consider. I reckon we still have a few years for growth before we can claim total success of the project.
Secondly, it is a testament to the developments on the chain. We're literally a copy and paste off steem, but that's as far as comparisons go. To see hive witnesses and the entire community relentlessly pursue improvements and maintain a firm belief in the future of the space is extremely impressive. Having the value of Hive surpass that of steem today was particularly satisfying for me (yup, am a sore winner).
Moving On
The price increase is great, but the reaction possible blow back from a pump is what am interested in. I don't think we'll be seeing massive dumps anymore (even from newbies) as the community seems more inclined to medium- long term holding. This means that even in the event of a blow back, we may fall around a 60-70 cent wedge, with the unlikeliness of ever tasting all time lows of yesteryears.
Moreso, HBD's ability to maintain the peg is another thing that will ensure stability in the future. So far so good on that regard ($1.2 compared to $9 SBD is at) and I expect it to remain so.
What's it To Me?
Hive at $1 doesn't do much for me or anyone without a large stake. Of course no harm taking profits, but there's a lot more to be gained from having a large piece of the pie. I reckon that the full hive experience begins with a significant stake.
Conclusion
We seem to be positioning ourselves towards somewhat stable growth as things stand. Going by the way we've been growing over the last couple of months, I reckon confidence level is high in the entire space. Some projects here have a really bright future, and are sure to lift the entire chain along.
