I have known quite a few interesting, yet complex personalities over the course of my life. Some are rather cheerful and a joy to be around. Some are introverted and some are quite mature. Yet there are very few personalities I will describe as bitter or angry.
Yet that personality trait or description fits the bill for an increasing number of people who find themselves in the World of Online social media. There are of course those described as 'trolls' but beyond them is an increasing polarization of ideas that somehow has split along political lines.
No doubt mainstream social media has succeeded in dividing us the more by creating makeshift eco chambers for certain lines of thought. There is also a set of characters who simply cannot see the good in anything done by those they don't share certain views with.
We've always been divided but these days it seems that division has become full blown hatred, especially in the online space. We all know that extremist attacks start by hating those who don't share our values to the extent we believe the World will be better off without them. This usually evolves into something a lot more sinister.
For the average person, a little less time spent bickering on political and religious issues online might go some way in reversing the certain trend towards the 'bitter' label.
