My parents were quite committed Christians it greatly reflected in the way we were raised as kids. They were selfless in sacrificing for our wellbeing and strived to instill what they believed were the right set of values in us. Fast forward to today and I think we all turned out okay. Three of my siblings have a family kids of their own and we're all Christians.
It's the example that was set though. The older we got the more we got to understand the weight of sacrifices that our parents made on our behalf. It's always easy to say that it's a no brainer for parents to want the best for their children and make sacrifices for them, but I don't think people understand the true weight of it.
Take for example in today's climes most people are opting out from parenting altogether. People are also having far fewer children than their parents because of the sheer responsibility involved in raising kids, especially in today's complicated society. I think myself and my siblings are some of the biggest advocates for larger, stable families as our sibling relationship remains solid till this day.
I completely understand the personal choices of people who are not as enthusiastic on marriage and raising families as our parents. I personally don't judge their decisions because the World has changed a great deal. It certainly has gotten a lot more complex and parents don't even have full autonomy over the parenting of their kids, much less other threats that can challenge the stability of a household. However I remain a big advocate of this right of passage. A call to parenting is a call to true sacrifice, there still remains fewer things that will leave behind lasting fulfillment.
