Looking at the media aspect of Hive and how it compares to the mainstream platforms out there, there is one obvious observation that comes to mind, and that is the absence (or huge reduction) in vitriol that follows some of the social media platforms.

Twitter and Meta have become particularly notorious for being places filled with anger, bitterness and hate. Despite the efforts to ride their system of bots and bad actors, the truth persists that anyone with a device and internet connection can simply lash on any other person on those platforms and get away with it endlessly.

Particularly notorious are mob attacks where thousands of people come together to descend on one person for their views (whether right or wrong), in the most inappropriate manner possible. Insults, threats, and general cyber bullying seem persistent on those platforms and won't likely abate.

For me it is likely because of the low value sentiment it projects at the user end of the spectrum that promotes that kind of behavior. There is almost nothing to gain for the average user except entertainment value and people use the misfortunes of others to entertain themselves (mob actions).

It takes some digging to really bring out value from these platforms which is a shame considering their size and popularity. A few have succeeded, but generally for many others using these platforms is a waste of time and a net negative for them.

We really should avoid things that make us feeling dumber at the end of each use, or day. When they talk about social media addiction it is because there is seemingly no value being created or derived from its use. It won't be called an addiction if we were engaged in activities of value that leaves us feeling better and productive at the end of each use.

Hive is a place that creates value and rewards value from the get go. This is evidenced by the less vitriol that prevails on the space and a prevalence of constructive engagement. I don't have to think too hard to know that this is a much better use of my social media time than on any other platform.

Conclusion

Not only that, but merely being a part of the Hive community enables us to insist that such value creation be reproduced in other areas and we tend to be less tolerant of ignorantly spending time loafing around on social media. Not when there is so much to gain from with our time
