If you want something, you've got to earn it with effort.
Another day, another hunt story to share. And I’ll never get tired of telling it.
Having a job is exhausting, but so is having none. When you’re working, at least your effort turns into income. But when you’re not, you get nothing — unless you run your own business.
Lately, I realized how hard it really is to stay at home. To be honest, it’s even more draining than going out to work. So to all the housewives, I just want you to know how proud I am of you. I salute you. Handling the chores, raising your kids, and taking care of your husband — that’s not an easy job. Staying home is a full-time responsibility.
I woke up feeling lazy. Being home alone again, I couldn't think of anything to do except chores. I started the day feeling so unproductive. I thought I’d just stay that way, but I had no choice — responsibilities don’t wait.
So I made breakfast and got the chores done. After that, I headed to my uncle’s garden to get papayas for lunch. I came home with papayas and even some ripe pineapples. Perfect for lunch.
By afternoon, I knew mama, papa, and my brothers would come home hungry. But the only thing I had was macaroni in the fridge. So I made sopas. No milk, just vegetables and knorr cubes. But with a little mekus², it turned out edible. Hehe.
When my little brother got home, I knew he’d be hungry after all the classes and the long walk from school. I let him eat first, then asked him to come with me to look for tambo or bamboo shoots.
On our way to the bamboo grove, we passed by a bugnay tree, or Queensland cherry. We stopped to pick some. The fruits were ripe and so sweet.
I spotted so many bamboo shoots in Papa’s bamboo grove. I got super excited when I saw the huge ones and thought, "These must be the best for cooking!" Turns out, I was wrong. Huhu. They were already too big — about to become full-grown bamboo. That’s why Papa left them there on purpose.
Getting bamboo shoots was no joke. Thorns everywhere and those sharp, deadly sticks! But I was determined to find something for dinner... so nothing was impossible. NYAHAH!
Despite all the grumbling, I managed to get quite a lot. Then we headed home.
There were red flowers growing beside the bamboo. They were so beautiful and really stood out. Had to take some photos.
I also got some saluyot leaves from Papa’s garden to cook later. There was plenty growing there.
Here’s the finished dish. It wasn’t fancy, but I put effort and love into it,so it still turned out tasty. The coconut milk wasn’t enough though,so it didn’t come out creamy. Huhuhu.
Nothing is impossible when you give your best to get what you want. The same goes for the food served on our tables. It’s better to eat food our parents worked hard for than to have fancy things gained the wrong way.
A simple life, but an honest one.
This ends my blog. Thanks for reading and stopping by. See you again on my next one. Lovelots😘
