When the sleeping girl awoke, the whole world was a mess.

The outside walls were crumbling and the halls were lined with dirt. Contracted muscles stretched and sent pain coursing through her legs as she explored the ruins.

She walked past the dust-coated mirrors with cobwebs in their corners and the porcelain shards of teacups scattered on the floor.

The dimness shadowed her in grey as she continued forward. Her movements split the stuffy air; her footsteps broke the silence.

Then faintly in the distance, there came another sound. So quiet but still real, the sound of leaves and wind.

She followed her instincts and moved toward its source until she reached a window draped in curtains that billowed in the breeze.

Pushing the fabric aside, she let the light in.

She didn't know what year it was but saw that it was morning.
