We started our walk at the Cromford Wharf Car Park, and then walked along the towpath of the Cromford Canal. Quite a few people were out and about enjoying a nice gentle walk in the sun.
There is also a cafe at either end of the canal if you just want to call in for a bite to eat.
The Canal Narrow Boat Cruises operate the historic narrow boat Birdswood. The Friends of Cromford Canal run 2 hour cruises along the canal.
They also offer canoe lessons but we stayed on terra firma.
Further up the canal there was a bit of a fight with the Canada Geese. I think one of them was protecting their nest.
It was lovely to see a mallard duck with her chicks swimming down the canal.
I love this time of year when the blossom is out especially the lovely pink apple blossom.
We finished our walk at the old Leawood Pumphouse that was built in 1849. It was used to pump water from the River Derwent into the Cromford Canal.Source The Middleton Top and Leawood Pump Volunteer Group have done some great work restoring it and keeping it in tip top condition. It was a nice and easy flat walk. Just the way I like it.
