I parked up in a layby for my Sunday walk with the pooch. After a few cold days, summer has returned, and there's still lots of dandelions and buttercups in the fields.

We walked down the cart track passing some lovely rhododendron bushes.

We followed the path making our way into the wood.

At the entrance to the wood there's a stone stile that is a little tricky to get through.

After struggling through it ...

I'd totally forgotten that the stone wall came to an end a few yards further down, and I could easily have walked around it to get to the same footpath. What a plonker!

Some lovely views on the way down. I know I'm going to regret walking downhill at some point ...

There's always some random gate posts in the woods. There's probably been some old farms here back in the day.

There's also an old stone bridge at the bottom. I only just managed to walk over it as it gets quite overgrown with weeds in the summer. At this point, we decided to make our way back up the hill. This is where I started to regret walking down in the first place!

During our ascent, Buddy heard something ... I just assumed it was another dog walker only for a mountain biker to come zooming down the hill. He shouted "walker" to his friends who were careering towards him. As a 'Walking Dead' fan, I thought he meant there were zombies about. Cool, I thought as I know how to kill zombies, but obviously, he was referring to ME. Although, the correct description for me would have been "staggerer" as I don't do hills. When mountain bikers and walkers are allowed in the same wood, it's an accident waiting to happen. It's not the first time I've nearly been bulldozed over. I moved out of the way and let two of the bikers pass me. Unfortunately, the third biker had a twig in the spokes of his wheel, and the bike refused to budge. Karma is a bitch I thought ....

After our near death experience, we carried on up the hill. Buddy remembered that we didn't have to scramble through the stone stile. We walked around the wall this time!

We made our way back to the car. They say a cat has nine lives. I think I've used about four of mine up ....

... at least the pooch is tired out.
