Girls, we are moving!
The first time I heard this I jumped for joy and even went running to show off to my cousins that I would have a new house, innocence was part of me and ignorance of the future, but seeing those who were guiding me made me feel safe.
And then everything changed, it wasn't just once, we moved many times, to the point where we became increasingly shy and less sociable with those around us.
My brothers and I, we didn't make friends in the neighbourhood, urbanism or wherever we had to start again, we played alone and we were very reserved if anyone asked us anything, because we only had ourselves.
Moving broke barriers, we travelled many kilometres on one occasion. Wow! For the first time we were going on a "trip" to another country, how great! Innocence talking again and thinking that everything was simple and magical.
I remember one occasion, my sister and I decided to make that world of difference. We were invited to a party, a block away from where we lived, we accepted and made lots of friends, I remember it was Friday. We returned home so happy, we told my mum that we finally had friends, as we had a hard time making them. My mother, after a moment of silence, said to us: girls, tomorrow we are moving.
I felt so much annoyance, so much indignation as a child of less than 9 years old. When I had finally taken another risk and made friends, we had to start all over again. I didn't understand many things and everything seemed unfair.
Whoever says that moving or migrating is not a fresh start, to me and with respect I say "you are either wrong or you just haven't had your turn".
When you go to another place, you don't take the streets, the same house, the people, Doña Juana from the corner shop, or the old man who always reads the newspaper while drinking coffee in front of his house. You don't take the smells with you and even the colours are different.
There came a moment when we realised that the trip had become eternal. Birthdays and Christmases were so lonely and at the same time they made us closer. We took care of each other, my siblings and I, as it was all we had.
I moved not only houses, but also cities and countries, and between moves I lived in 12 different places, 12 wonderful places that left me with memories of great adventures and experiences, of laughter and dreams, of games and also some tears.
And it was then that I finally found my stability..." I finally had my home, my place, where I stayed for the longest time I had ever stayed before, I was so happy "...and then I had to start again from scratch".
Fear took hold of me, it never happened to me as a child, but it did as an adult and I didn't understand how even I couldn't control my emotions and my body, my mind was not in charge at all and no matter how much I told myself to calm down, it didn't come.
I began to suffer from insomnia and a nervous breakdown that left me breathless many times, in my fear I would run to any window and look at the ceiling, breathing deeply, looking for the same smells, looking for the nuances that would make me feel in what I wanted so much and finally once I had it, my home.
No storm lasts forever and all storms are necessary, but there will always be a beautiful sunshine to brighten our days. I got through it and I keep trying to move forward, even if I have to start over every day and sometimes completely from scratch.
I have moved 15 times already, but in each move I have had the opportunity to be who I am again, without the same mistakes of the past, greeting people, getting to know their stories and thus building many more memories in my memory.
Starting over is a new opportunity, as long as there is progress and the understanding that we will never be the same again, because we live to vibrate high and evolve every day.
I still have a long way to go and yes, I am afraid of the unknown, but that doesn't stop me from moving forward, because I have what I have been looking for and I didn't understand it: where my family is (husband and children), is my home and I am happy being with them.
