They say that when we grow up we become like our parents. That's true. I grew up following a healthy -like really healthy- lifestyle foodwise, as both my parents are interested in that way of living. Bio products, healthy recipes to boost the immune system, super foods and antioxidants were part of our daily eating routine. However none of these were a conscious choice for me. I was just going with the flow.
Nowadays that I don't live with them anymore, I notice that all this "work" they've done through years, has become a part of me. I prefer the healthy lifestyle and now it is my choice of doing so. So I keep getting informed about new recipes and I love experimenting with new tastes..
In today's post I decided to share with you the "Golden Milk" recipe which I tried yesterday and got uber excited! It is a great option for an afternoon beverage, especially during winter...
Golden milk — also known as turmeric milk — is an Indian drink that has been gaining popularity in Western cultures. This bright yellow beverage is made by warming up milk with turmeric and other spices. Besides its nice taste it also has numerous health benefits...
The key ingredient in golden milk is turmeric, a yellow spice popular in Asian cuisine, which gives curry its yellow colour. Curcumin, the active component in turmeric, has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries due to its strong antioxidant properties.
Curcumin has powerful antioxidant effects. It neutralises free radicals and also stimulates body's own antioxidant enzymes.
Turmeric, ginger and cinnamon, the main ingredients in golden milk, have strong anti-inflammatory properties that may reduce inflammation and joint pain.
The ingredients used to make golden milk also have antibacterial and antiviral properties which may protect from infections. Their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties may strengthen the immune system as well.
Ginger and turmeric may also improve digestion.
