Today I would like to introduce you to a wild growing fruit that probably everyone knows! I am talking about wild growing strawberries, the scientific name is Fragaria vesca. This type of strawberry not only tastes good, it is also very healthy and has many positive effects on our body!
History of this plant dates back to the Stone Age and was also valued in ancient Rome and by the Greeks. Cultivation of the wild strawberry began in the 14th century and it was first mentioned in a European garden catalog in 1623.
The most common areas of distribution are in Europe and northern Asia and mostly grow at the edges of forests, in clearings, between foliage or in bushes. From about May, the plant bears the first fruits and you can harvest throughout the summer!
The white flowers of the wild strawberry develop between April and June, the flowers are full of pollen and are a great food source for insects!
Compared to other strawberries, the wild strawberry forms only very small fruits which often do not exceed one centimeter in size. The taste is very aromatic and sweet and the leaves can also be used, for example as a tea!
Due to the numerous ingredients, this plant has many healing properties, and is suitable as a natural medicine! The ingredients include vitamin C, iron, flavonoids, tannins and essential oils. Possibilities of use are great, as an example, the wild strawberry has an anti-inflammatory, calming effect or supports the metabolism.
