Good day dear Hive friends, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my contribution and hope you had a weekend that was full of positive experiences as well as a great start to the new week! In this post, I would like to talk about art history and hope you can expand your knowledge.
Here you can see an oil painting made by the Swiss painter Johann Gottfried Steffan (1815 - 1905), who is particularly known for his landscape paintings. During his early years he worked as a lithographer where he had been taught by Friedrich Allamand and a few years later he went to Germany in the Bavarian city of Munich where he attended an academy and expanded his knowledge in lithography and a few years later he decided to devote himself more and more to landscape painting. In this respect, he was probably very influenced by his life in Munich and he often made trips to the nearby Alps as well as the rural areas to be inspired and he mainly used oil and devoted himself especially to the art epoch of naturalism. At that time, he founded an atelier in Munich, which quickly also became a famous meeting place for Swiss artists and the works of Johann Gottfried Steffan convinces in particular with the lively colors and soothing atmosphere.
