“Excuse me, miss.”
The security guard with the stern expression stepped right in front of Jessica, blocking her from the exit that had been so, so very close.
“Is something wrong, sir?” She pitched her voice even higher than usual, opened her eyes wide in an imitation of innocence and batted her eyelashes.
“Our security cameras picked you up stealing several items from throughout the store.”
She gasped in feigned outrage but he wasn't finished with his accusations yet.
“I've personally never witnessed anyone try to steal so many things at once and you're obviously very bad at it.” He finished sadly.
Well that wasn't good. She was trying to make it obvious enough that she was steeling but not so obvious that people would think her incompetent.
“Sir, I assure you there is nothing hidden up my sleeves.” she offered with an angelic smile.
“Probably because your dress doesn't have any. Look, I don't know if this is some kind of joke or if you're not in your right mind but I don't feel like this is a matter for the police. Could you just return everything and we'll try to get you to your parents or whoever is supposed to be looking out for you?”
“Ok,” she nodded miserably and ducked her head down as she followed him…for all of three seconds before she made a dash for the exit.
It was a clumsy effort that got her caught almost instantly and arrested not long afterwards. The tabloids would go wild once they found out who she was and her agent would finally start getting roles for her outside of children's television. The plan was foolproof even if it wasn't exactly original.
If it had worked for that other girl, it could damned well work for her too.
I wasn't too sure what to write for this prompt. Sometimes it's like that. On another note, today's my 9th Hive birthday! I don't really know how to celebrate that. That's literally longer than I've been a mom. Mind blown.
But anyway, head on over here for the details and prompt to write your own freewrite today.
