I discovered this series thanks to my bestie, who made me watch the trailer for the show Off Campus when Prime Video released it. But we both have a habit of reading the books that TV adaptations are based on. So, a week before the series premiered —which, coincidentally, was on my birthday, May 13— I decided to binge-read the main book series set in this college hockey universe.
Originally published in 2015, this is a romantic series with that air of cliché romance that was so popular back then—and, honestly, it feels good to revisit every now and then. The reason I was able to finish the four main books in just a week (because yes, there are more stories and spin-offs within this universe) is that they’re light and entertaining novels. Each one has a well-defined story, with a beginning, middle, and end, but without losing the connection to the other characters.

What is this book series about?
The Off-Campus series—or Kiss Me (its original title)—is set at Briar University and follows a group of friends who are on the college hockey team. And my social media algorithm ended up teaching me more about hockey than I ever thought I’d need to know 😂
But even though sports are a part of every story, the real focus is on the characters and their relationships. Each book features a different main couple, following each member of this group of friends, so the stories can be read individually, but together they create a much more enriching experience.

Throughout the four books, we find romance, friendship, personal growth, insecurities, decisions about the future, and all those challenges that come with the transition to adulthood. But aside from the jokes, support, and loyalty of this wonderful group of friends, I think the reason these books are so popular is that the relationships are built on a pretty healthy foundation.
Of course, there are conflicts, misunderstandings, and difficult moments, but the characters tend to navigate them through communication, trust, and emotional responsibility. At a time when many romantic stories continue to romanticize toxic dynamics, it was refreshing to find characters who make mistakes but also learn to take responsibility and build healthier relationships.
And yes, maybe I'm asking for the bare minimum, but after reading so many romance novels where arguments are resolved through jealousy, manipulation, or silence, finding characters who simply talk things out with each other is just exciting.
A lo largo de los cuatro libros encontramos romance, amistad, crecimiento personal, inseguridades, decisiones sobre el futuro y todos esos desafíos que acompañan el paso a la adultez. Pero, aparte de las bromas, apoyo y lealtad de este grandioso grupo de amigos, creo que la base de la popularidad de estos libros radica en que las relaciones están construidas desde una base bastante sana.

THE DEAL
This is the first book, which inspired the first season of the series. Here we meet Hannah Wells and Garrett Graham, two college students who, on the surface, don’t have much in common. However, a series of circumstances leads them to strike a deal that gradually brings them closer than either of them expected.
If you're a fan of the “fake relationship” trope, this book will probably hook you from the very first pages. It has tension, chemistry, romance, humor, drama, a soundtrack worthy of a playlist, and one of those literary crushes that stays with you long after you finish the story. Out of the four, this was my favorite—my favorite couple and, yes, my favorite guy, too. Hannah and Garrett were just perfect for me.

What I enjoyed most was the chemistry between them. Even though they’re very different people, they manage to complement each other in a way that feels natural and genuine. Garrett made me laugh countless times; he’s charming, funny, and has an incredible ability to make those around him feel comfortable. Throughout the story, he helps Hannah face her fears and insecurities, while she offers him something he also needs: support, understanding, and a safe space where he can let his guard down.
They both end up becoming a refuge for each other—a place where they can show their vulnerability without fear of being judged. Plus, there’s one detail I absolutely loved as a girl who was proud to be part of the One Direction generation: Hannah is a fan of the band, and although Garrett makes a few jokes about it, he never ridicules her or tries to make her feel inferior for something she likes. It may seem like a small detail, but for those of us who’ve faced criticism from guys for our “girly tastes,” it’s refreshing to find a male character who listens, respects, and supports her—even when he doesn’t share those interests.

The second book in the series continues the story of John Logan and Grace Ivers. Without giving away any spoilers, suffice it to say that Logan makes a series of questionable decisions right from the start, and—as often happens in real life—what starts off badly ends up getting even more complicated.
Although it was the book I found weakest and slowest of the four, it’s still an entertaining and very fun read. If there’s one thing that defines Logan, it’s that he makes mistakes… a lot. But he also tries to take responsibility for his mistakes and find a way to fix them.
As for the main couple, I loved the chemistry between them. Grace seems like the sweet, innocent girl in the story, but the truth is that she’s much more daring and adventurous than anyone would imagine, and Logan doesn’t take long to keep up with her in all her antics. Plus, I’ve rarely seen a character become as skilled at crumbs as Logan is while trying to win back Grace’s forgiveness.

Unlike The Deal, where much of the story revolves around mutual support and overcoming insecurities, here I felt that the central theme was learning to live with greater freedom.
It’s a story about giving yourself permission to be yourself, opening up to love, enjoying the present, and daring to pursue what truly makes you happy. Although the pace felt a bit slow at times, I still enjoyed reading it because it retains one of the elements I value most in the series: intense, passionate relationships that don’t need to resort to toxic dynamics to create conflict.
Furthermore, both Logan and Grace undergo significant personal growth. They both mature, learn from their mistakes, and discover that while it’s not always possible to control every aspect of life, they can decide how to live it.
A diferencia de The Deal, donde gran parte de la historia gira en torno al apoyo mutuo y la superación de inseguridades, aquí sentí que el tema central era aprender a vivir con mayor libertad.

The premise seems simple: a guy known for avoiding serious relationships and a girl who does believe in them. What starts out as a way to relieve tension ends up becoming something much deeper for both of them.
The third book in the series introduces us to Dean Di Laurentis and Allie Hayes, a couple who promised to be intense long before they became the stars of their own story. One of the things I enjoy most about this series is that each book drops little hints about the next one, so I went into The Score with pretty high expectations.
And the truth is, it didn't disappoint me. Dean and Allie are two people with overwhelming energy, two suns that shine with their own light, but who never try to dim the other's light. On the contrary, one of the most beautiful things about their relationship is that they both inspire each other to grow, to pursue what they want, and to feel comfortable being exactly who they are. Their story is about chemistry, trust, communication, respect, and also that playful charm that makes the best romances impossible to put down.
La premisa parece sencilla: un chico conocido por evitar las relaciones serias y una chica que sí cree en ellas. Lo que comienza como una forma de liberar tensiones termina convirtiéndose en algo mucho más profundo para ambos.

Dean was one of the biggest surprises of the series for me. At first, he seems to fit the stereotype of the rich, attractive, and superficial guy, but as the story unfolds, we discover someone who is intelligent, funny, loyal, and much more sensitive than he appears to be. I especially liked that he wasn’t the typical bitter or emotionally broken character. Dean has a family that loves him, friends who support him, and a genuinely warm personality; he was simply trying to figure out what he wanted to do with his life and where he truly belonged. And when he meets Allie, he begins to realize that there’s something more important than fleeting fun.
For her part, she finds in Dean a space where she can be herself without feeling restricted or judged. I also really enjoyed the references to the pop culture of the time and realized that Dean would probably be the character I could most easily sit down and talk to for hours. He goes out of his way to project the image of a superficial blond who doesn’t take anything seriously, when in reality he’s one of the smartest and most interesting people in the group. And Allie, with her radiant and optimistic energy, ends up becoming the perfect partner for him; and so, the girl who was working toward becoming an actress became the protagonist of a great story.

The fourth and final book in the series follows the story of John Tucker and Sabrina James, and I have to admit that this dynamic really surprised me. It’s the first time I’ve read a “grumpy x sunshine” story with the roles reversed: he’s the golden retriever of the relationship, and she’s the black kitten. We’re usually used to seeing the dynamic the other way around, so it was refreshing to find something different.
Tucker embodies many admirable qualities: he is hardworking, loyal, has clear goals, and dreams of building a stable life with the person he loves. Sabrina, on the other hand, is an independent, ambitious, and determined young woman with very specific plans for her future and a strong desire to succeed professionally.
However, life has a way of throwing a wrench into our plans when we least expect it. And this isn't a spoiler—it's mentioned both in the synopsis and at the end of the previous book—but an impulsive decision and a night of passion end up completely changing the course of their lives when they discover they're about to become parents.
El cuarto y último libro de la saga sigue la historia de John Tucker y Sabrina James, y debo admitir que fue una dinámica que me sorprendió bastante. None of the couples are perfect, but they all learn to support each other, communicate, and build a future without giving up on their own dreams💕🏒✨
Perhaps the biggest lesson I took away from this saga is this: don't look for someone who dims your light just to make themselves look bigger. Look for someone who enjoys seeing you shine and helps you shine even brighter.
If you enjoy college romance, lighthearted stories, and groups of friends who end up feeling like family, I definitely recommend this series.
