For almost 11 years, I have been working as a nurse. Three of which is at the hospital and the next seven years is at the community. Of the two, I have enjoyed working with the latter. You get to meet other people in the community, interacting with them and knowing their health issues and concerns. Providing health services to the local populace in far-flung sites of different barangays made me realize that health personnel like me is an essential instrument in connecting health care towards them.
In the picture below, you will see a Manobo Community situated deep in the mountains of Barangay Datu Wasay, Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat. It is a 1-hour walk from the barangay proper and can also be reached by riding a habal-habal motorcycle. What I really like about what I am doing is that you can still be fascinated by the works of nature while rendering services to the people. The landscapes and the trees that surround the village makes the trekking worthwhile. The people are very accommodating, though they only live a simple life, they still manage to provide us with comfort. There is always a comfort for me, looking to these views, as it provides me a relaxing experience while doing work.
As a city dweller, I am so lucky to be able to have such a wonderful experience and also grateful that I have the opportunity to practice my God-given profession.
