Shrimp is one of the most commonly consumed types of shellfish.
It is quite nutritious and provides high amounts of certain nutrients, such as iodine, that aren’t abundant in many other foods.
On the other hand, some people claim that shrimp is unhealthy due to its high cholesterol content.
Additionally, it is commonly believed that farm-raised shrimp may have some negative health effects
Although shrimp is high in cholesterol, it has not been found to have a negative impact on heart health. Eating shrimp may actually help lower your levels of triglycerides and “bad” LDL cholesterol. Overall, shrimp is a healthy food that can fit well into a balanced diet.
Here are sone of my suggestions on how to cook your shrimp other than the usual boiling them and adding salt.
Shrimp with water spinach in tamarind sauce or what we Filipinos call "Sinigang na Hipon"
Sauted garlic with tonatoes & onions, then add water and sinigang mix or tamarind base mixture. When its already boiling, add the kangkong. This cooks in less than 20 minutesShrimp in Coconut Milk or what we Filipinos call "Ginataang Hipon"
Sauted garlic, onions, ginger then add coconut milk, when its boiling already, drop the shrimps until it turns red. Cooking time is again in less than 20 minutesShrimp with string beans & squash or what we Pinoys call "Ginataang Hipon na may Sitaw at Kalabasa
Sauted garlic with onions & tomatoes, add coconut milk, bring to a boil. Them add the Squash & cut String beans and lastly drop the shrimp. Add salt & pepper to taste.
Im sure each of us have tons of shrimp recipes based on your location. But because the Philippines is a tropical country, coconut milk is very much available anytime. And since the Philippines is an archipelago, shrimp supply is all year round. Are we not a one lucky country?
