In whatever plans we have, marriage and raising kids are always part of it. Besides, that's one of the reasons behind our existence. My parents tried in their effort in training me to become who I am today, their effort is something I can not trivialize and I will forever appreciate their care, provision, and teachings. However, with this revolution, raising a child like the 1990s may only limit them to information they need to grow up in becoming someone in life, our fathers at those days had the mindset that education and farming was all a child needed to succeed. A lot had changed, there are more graduates out there unemployed, the world is going digital through which children of this generation gain both right and wrong information, disciplined is thrown out of the window, and money seems to be the only thing the world reverence, neglecting dignity, contentment, honesty, and other characters of virtues.
I know some of the things I suffer today are as a result of my childhood programming. There were some habits my parents spared me of and I grew up trying hard to change them. Personally, I don't listen to News, I don't like to read, I procrastinate, I'm timid, and I'm not bold before the audience. I realized it was because I wasn't introduced to all these while I was growing up, no one forced me into reading, no one told me being brave and courageous was good, no one bothered me about doing tasks early, I grew up believing everything was fine until I grew up and faced the larger world.
I hope to train my children in godly virtues, they should be able to know what's wrong and right from an early age so it would stick with them. I hope to build a mini library where my children read at least 2 books in a week and make a review of what they've read. I'll teach them courage, to be able to stand for what they believe and face people with bravery. At an early age I'll teach them things that really matter in life, tell them the controversies that come in life and how certain people and things aren't worth our stress. I will teach them secrets I have learned about money, this is one thing I never learned while I was growing up, but I wouldn't want my children to go through the illiteracy I went through about finances.
Finally, I'll give them love, sufficient love, but wouldn't pamper them to a level where they would have no regard for the poor. I'll tell them how everyone is different and why contentment is a virtue. I wouldn't fail to give them the quote "Be your best at all time, because how you present yourself is how others see you"
