Sometimes people perceived to be alone means a frustrating life, one where the individual lacks company. Unfortunately, it's not always true. In fact, people who enjoy staying alone find better ways to be happier in their isolation. For an individual to love isolation can originate from childhood programming, traits, or personality and doesn't necessarily mean he was forced into such solitude because he lacked company or friends. Sometimes people withdraw into isolation because of life's vicissitudes. At that moment, isolation helps them clear their minds of distractions and set them up for positive thinking.

Aside from trying to clear off, introverts love being alone. They've created a system that makes being alone more comforting. Their space means a lot more to them than hanging out with friends in a world they consider dangerous. They live as happily as those who hang out with a lot of friends when they are all by themselves. Nothing is wrong with any of them; they just see hanging out and staying alone differently. The society may assume isolation may be a result of depression or an unhappy state, but it isn't true in many cases. Sometimes people just love their space and prefer quiet.

I am the indoor type while my brother is an outdoor person. When he goes out to meet friends, I remain indoors doing something online or just sleeping, and we both enjoy our moments. A few times he has told me why being indoors is unsafe, and I've equally told him why resting is also important. We both have our reasons and we understand them in our own terms. While society may find it awkward seeing a man indoors all the time, the one indoors knows best what comfort he derives from it. Not everyone is uncomfortable being alone.

I am not disputing the fact that loneliness sometimes is uncomfortable, boring, and tiring, or that it isn't a sign of depression and lack of company. I'm simply saying sometimes loneliness can mean different things for different people based on their background and childhood programming. What I love about being lonely is that it creates time to reflect and heal. When society sees pain, depression, and anger, I see loneliness as a place where healing takes root.
