Politics can easily become a waste of your time when you allow it to consume more of your attention than your own life does.
People spend hours arguing about politicians, parties, elections and decisions they have very little control over. They know every controversy happening in government, yet they barely know what they are doing with their own lives. They complain about the country every day but make no serious plans to improve their own situation.
That does not mean politics is completely meaningless. Government decisions affect everyone. You should know enough to understand what is happening around you, vote when you can and hold people in power accountable. But there is a difference between being informed and being obsessed.
Your life still needs your attention.
Your education. Your money. Your health. Your career. Your relationships. Your character. These are areas where your choices can actually change something.
Nobody is coming to build your future for you. A politician cannot study for you. They cannot develop your skills for you. They cannot force you to save money, exercise, learn something valuable or stop wasting your time.
At some point, you have to stop watching everybody else and start asking what you are doing.
You may not control the government, the economy or what other people decide to do. You have far more control over your own habits and direction.
Pay attention to politics, but don’t let politics become your personality.
There is a whole life outside the political noise. Go and build yours.
