Hello everyone. How are you all doing today? I hope everything is going very well for you all. God be blessed.
So I was thinking about what to write about today on the community. It was a very tough choice. Today's talk will be on a very important habit every successful person must surely possess. That habit is proactivity. It is the first and foremost habit you need to possess if you need to be successful.
What is really proactivity?
Proactivity is not just acting to deal with difficulties. Oh no, it's way more than that. It means being conscious that as human beings, we are responsible for our own lives.
Being a proactive person means that you have come to understand that only you are to blame for what happens in your life, how you behave and your attitude. It's far from being just an action; it is an understanding, a whole new shift in the way you see the world.
What do I mean when I say that we are responsible for what happens to us?
It is human nature to pass blame unto circumstances around us for our incompetence and awful behaviours. The behaviours of many thereby become a product of the conditions in our environment. Any person that is like this is not proactive, but reactive.
A proactive character means that your behaviours are conscious and not influenced by conditioning. It means that your behaviours are based on values and principles which are tangible and never changing instead of on conditions.
Whilst reactive people are affected by the environment, proactive people don't change.
To be proactive, you need to be able to choose rightly. You need to understand that everything that happens to you should not be blamed on the circumstances or other people. You need to know that you are what you are, and you feel exactly how you feel because of your own choices. Being proactive means that you have faced reality of the circumstances and have decided that you have the power to choose a response.
Of course there are things you can't control for sure. A reactive person gets bothered by those things and tries to change them or even tries to deny the facts. This futile behaviour will make the person even more depressed.
A proactive person on the other hand will accept that the situation cannot be altered and will adjust his mindset so as to love with the truth, even if it will be hard.
Proactive language:
You can become proactive by changing the way you speak to yourself and to others around you during circumstances.
For example, as a reactive person, if someone is trying to make fun of you, you might say to yourself, "she makes me so mad". As a proactive person you will realize that you are the one responsible to choose how you feel. Instead, you say to yourself, "I control my own feelings"
Instead of saying that there's nothing you can do in your current situation, you can say "let me look at my alternatives" Instead of using "if-only's" to justify your ineffectiveness, say that you have the power to be effective, and you will be.
Being proactive starts with a shift in the way you see the world. See yourself as the decision maker when it comes to your effectiveness.
Thank you.
