Hi fellow Steemians, while festive moods are still here just thought that friends on Steemit would be interested in how Christmas is performed in England. I spent it in the South of the country, so no dreaming of a White Christmas- famous one sung by Bing Crosby. No white colours just silver clouds. But as it is considered to be the warmest point of England- no regrets especially there is always enough snow on Ukraine's Christmas that always awaits on 7th January.
Celebrations starts with the family gathering by the big fireplace on the Christmas Eve: talking, joking and building up quite an appetite in preparation for hostess' great cooking. The table is groaning with food and decorated with candles and little angels behind everyone's plate. During the dinner we are pulling a Christmas cracker with a fellow diner. Inside there is a funny question, a coin gift and a paper crown that British are used to putting on during the meal. So it looks like kings and queens sitting at table. King Arthur might like that.
"What do snowmen wear on their heads?" - somebody reads on for the punch line and see if others can make it to the end without laughing. Cracker jokes -laugh guaranteed.
Fest started and will be paused only to watch the Queens speech.
She looks like my grandma and seeing Queen Elizabeth I always picture my granny living far away in the Urals.
The culmination of the evening is of course a pudding!
On Christmas Day after quick breakfast we went to listen the bandstand where we all wore the same animal hats and danced around like silly billies. The foie grasing ourselves continued till the evening with some of quizz games and watching modern classic Christmas romcom "Love Actually". I love this funny song from the film:.. I feel it my fingers, I feel it in my toes from "Christmas All Around"
We did the walk along the sea front again on the Boxing Day followed by the pub with the cool decorations. I did enjoy this little walk along the seafront trying to see France across the English Channel :)
To say the true it was a boxless day as all were opened the day before. The only things left to open were the poppers on trousers and buttons on shirts to allow for expansion. More delicious food eaten in moderation today as over the last couple of days everyone overeaten.
This evening will be spent sitting in front of the TV roasting chestnuts on an open fire watching films.
