Greetings everyone...it's been quite sometime, I decided to write again :).
...
The swords lashed out again almost taking the Roman by surprise. Aquilá stepped back and parried, groaning in pain. This wasn't a nice match up and he knew it. His gladius seemed to be no good against the Saxon's long sword, he cussed and held out his shield firmly trying to study his opponent. The Saxon... towering over him, walked gracefully towards him and let out a rather cold smile. "Is this all the mighty Aquilá has to offer" he roared mocking him once more.
The blade whistled again and Aquilá stepped aside to evade the attack, the second blow met his shield with such brute force he staggered and eventually got his grip. He dived aside to evade the third. He couldn't retreat, yet he couldn't advance. He had to get within metres from the Saxon for his gladius to be of any use but the opponent's extended reach coupled with his long sword made that impossible. Aquilá knew getting hit by any of his attacks would ultimately determine the match.
Momentarily dazed, he stared around and caught a glimpse of his comrades in battle. The Romans were having it tough, their speed and precision were useless against the Giants of Altricus. Yet, he knew within himself he couldn't die now...not yet.
He stood up slowly, drew his gladius once more and raised it skyward yelling "Order and glory" and advanced once again.
"Get me Serverinusss"!! Yelled the king, unsteady from the unpleasant news he was being greeted with.
"The saxons are breaking through legion IV's defence, the fate of the kingdom would be decided with the next move".
The king grinned, starting intensely at the old wizard. His presence has never been accompanied with pleasant news. Ganondolf, the Lord of the void...ruthless in nature. He had eyes that seemed to stare directly into your soul. Crooked and bent from age, his arms outstretched resting on his staff. He hobbled to the king's side, looked him in the eye and said "Culain" your weakness disgust me. The king turned his gaze away. Ganondolf had never been known to be anything close to pacifying. His daughter once had a still birth and all Ganondolf could do was pick up the lifeless child and toss it into a furnace before his daughter even knew about it.
Culain paced around his palace restlessly, he would occasionally pause, look up and tilt his head in a manner as if he were reading something from the ceiling. It was the king's habit whenever he got worried and had to think. A royal guard came in to announce the presence of Severinus and before he could say anything the king turned around instantaneously and began walking towards the door.
Serverinus refused to come into the palace, Culain came out from his Chambers and acknowledged the knight with a slight nod. He was the only man aside Ganondolf who could ever make the king do something of such, he was his brother after all.
Culain walked up to him, he still hadn't gotten off his horse. "you know what to do, don't you". Severinus understood, he nodded and rode off on his horse with three other knights. The king stared till he could see the horses no more then made his way to the castle. There was so much unspoken between these brothers and anyone could tell. Ganondolf, striking his beard closed his eyes for a brief moment and let out a sigh.
Their swords gleamed in the cool moonlight, Aquilá knew only one could walk away from this. His opponent charged again with a mighty cry Aquilá dodged aside in one fluid move, his enemy swiveled in his direction and struck again. Aquilá tried to evade the attacks once again but his agile movement was far too slow. The sword plunged forward cleaving his lungs. A sudden gush of pain jolted throughout the Roman's body, his legs began to weaken and his arms lost tension as he gasped for air.
He tilted his head downwards, holding on to the sword, blood gushing out..........
