DUST SETTLES SOFTLY
Dust
settles
softly
Upon
the ledge
where our
picture used to
stand proud and
proclaim
our love to
everyone
but us
Dust
settles
softly
In the air
as I look
out the back
window at
our empty
chairs
overlooking
the pond
Dust
settles
softly
On the leather bound
journal I bought
for you
for me
to write messages
of love and infatuation
inside its protective
cover
Dust
settles
softly
On my cheek
as I stand here
gazing blankly
anchored
tethered
shackled
and cannot move
from the past
