Hi there. A new set of math problems is here along with solution to math problems set #3.
Question One
A robot takes 3 minutes to make 7 green onion pancakes. How many pancakes are made in 20 minutes?
Question Two
Find the area of an equilateral triangle with side lengths of 2 centimetres each.
Question Three
Jenny has a jewelry collection in her drawer. The collection contains necklaces, pairs of earrings, rings and bracelets.
In total, she has 25 pieces. Jenny has three times more pairs of earrings than the number of necklaces. The number of rings is double the number of necklaces. With the number of bracelets, it is one more than double the number of necklaces.
How much of each type of jewelry does Jenny have? (Algebra method recommended)
Question One
Create a list of seven numbers where the mean is equal to the median and the mode.
(There are multiple ways to do this.)
Solution
One solution would be 1, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 9. The mean is 5, the mode is 5 and the median is 5.
Question Two
A new laptop is on sale for $1200. This sale price is 20% off the original price. What was the original price for this laptop?
Solution
Let P be the original price of the laptop. The original price is the price before any sales and/or taxes. Applying the sale of 20% means you are paying 20% less or 80% of the original price in order for obtaining the final price. Setting up the equation would be like this:
P x 0.80 = 1200
Solving for P gives $1500 as the original laptop price.
Question Three
A rectangle has a side length of 5 units, a width length of x+2 and its diagonal is x+3. Find the area of this rectangle.
Solution (No Picture)
Using the length, width and diagonal from the rectangle, a right angle triangle can be formed. As there is a right angle triangle, Pythagorean theorem can be used as an equation to help solve for x. (Math text rendered through QuickLaTeX.com)
Substituting x = 10 gives the hypotenuse length of 13 and x + 2 would be 12. The area of the rectangle would be 12 x 5 which is 60 units.
