Hi there. This is an overview of the Delta Reign Pokemon prerelese preconstructed decks.
Decklists and images from Thero Dactilo, a Chilean Poketuber.
Note: This post is long.
How Pokemon TCG Prerelease Events Work
Pokemon Prerelease events are great for opening booster packs as well as get cards before the official release. Each player/particpant gets one Build and Battle Box as a part of their tournament fee.
This Build and Battle Box contains a 40 card preconstructed deck with a promo card and 4 booster packs. The price of this is typically 45 to 55 CAD in the Toronto area. A prerelease tournament fee is usually 35 to 45 CAD. In terms of value, prerelease tournaments are good for pulling some packs. (Me personally I skip buying booster boxes as they are too expensive. I go to prereleases as an alternative.)
Prereleases are typically available 1 week to 2 weeks before the official release date. Delta Reign prereleases are held from Saturday October 24, 2026 to Sunday November 1, 2026. In the Toronto and surrounding area, there are not many spots available. There is a bit of hype for this set.
Four Promo Cards
I had to use Proxy card images are the promo card images could not upload here for some reason.
Masquerain Deck
Decklist
- x4 Surskit
- x4 Masquerain (incl one promo version)
- x4 Combee
- x4 Spinarak
- x3 Lillie's Determination
- x4 Brock's Scouting
- x2 Forest of Vitality
- x2 Growing Grass Energy
- x7 Basic Grass Energy
- x4 Poke Pad
- x1 Sacred Ash
- x1 Energy Retrieval
This Masquerain Deck features the Bug Out attack. You have Surskit with Masquerain along with Combee and Spinarak.
Brock's Scouting is kind of weird in this deck. You want the Bug Out Pokemon to be in deck so you can use the Bug Out attack. The main use is to get Surskit out.
Forest of Vitality is for fast evolution from Surskit to Masquerain after turn one.
The Growing Grass Energy provides a +20 HP boost to a Grass Pokemon. There are a few 110 damage dealing Pokemon. Masquerain with this special Energy would have 130 HP instead.
You could maybe cut 1 or 2 Grass Energy for something like a fifth Surskit or a Zinnia's Trust. The gameplay of this deck will be hit or miss. You can deal big damage or accidentally discard key cards from the bottom of your deck. This deck does not seem beginner friendly in a way.
You could consider Wimpod and Mega Golisopod if you pull these from the packs. You could also remove some Spinarak for more Masquerain. Spinarak is not a great Basic Pokemon to start with.
Enamorus Deck
Decklist
- x4 Tornadus
- x3 Thundurus
- x2 Landorus
- x2 Enamorus (includes 1 promo card)
- x3 Poke Pad
- x3 Ultra Ball
- x2 Energy Search
- x3 Lillie's Determination
- x3 Brock's Scouting
- x1 Gladion's Final Battle
- x1 Sacred Ash
- x1 Air Balloon
- x1 Repel
- x4 Basic Psychic Energy
- x4 Basic Fighting Energy
- x3 Basic Lightning Energy
The Enamorus deck is well built here. You have:
- x4 Tornadus
- x3 Thundurus
- x2 Enamorus
- x2 Landorus
The 11 attackers are all Basic Pokemon with the chances of getting a mulligan is really low from a 40 card deck.
Lillie's Determination is a staple card and is just generally good. Brock's Scouting is to fetch 2 Basic Pokemon or 1 Evolution Pokemon. Energy Search to get 1 of Fighting Energy, Psychic Energy or Lightning Energy.
Poke Pad and Ultra Ball are for finding Pokemon.
Some interesting inclusions are the one copy of Repel, one Gladion's Final Battle, Sacred Ash and the one Air Balloon.
Once all 4 are in play, you get reduced attack costs as in not playing the Colourless part of the attack costs.
I don't think you change much from this deck. One could get greedy and cut the Psychic Energy and put something else. That means you don't attack with Enamorus and hope to not run into any Pokemon ex. This Altaria could be useful but you need deck space and the Swablu.
Kommo-o Deck
Decklist
- x4 Jangmo-o
- x4 Hakamo-o
- x3 Kommo-o (includes 1 promo card)
- x3 Durddigon
- x4 Poke Pad
- x4 Lillie's Determination
- x2 Brock's Scouting
- x1 Rare Candy
- x2 Air Balloon
- x2 Basic Fire Energy
- x2 Basic WaterEnergy
- x4 Basic Fighting Energy
- x5 Basic Lightning Energy
The Kommo-o 40 card Deck has its evolution line and Druddigon as a secondary attacker with a few Fire Energy. You do get some copies of Lillie's Determination, Air Balloon and Brock's Scouting.
Possible Upgrades/Changes
Running 4 energy types is kind of awkward. Pulling one or two Adventuring Lanterns helps with consistency.
There is a possibility of removing Druddigon and the Fire energy to make room for something like Pincurchin, Raikou ex (if you get lucky), and maybe this Kilowattrel or Sandslash evolution line.
As you are allowed more than 4 copies of a card, you could remove something to make room for more copies of the Kommo-o evolution line.
Magmortar Deck
Decklist
- x4 Magmar
- x3 Magmortar (includes 1 promo card)
- x3 Electabuzz
- x2 Electivire
- x4 Poke Pad
- x4 Lillie's Determination
- x2 Hilda
- x3 Energy Retrieval
- x3 Aventuring Lantern
- x6 Basic Fire Energy
- x6 Basic Lightning Energy
This Magmortar deck looks easy to use and easy to play. It is well built. Magmortar is the engine that accelerates Fire and Lightning Basic Energy to Magmortar or to Electivire.
Magmortar would be an ideal attacker against Masquerain (Fire does double damage for weakness against Grass). Electivire is more for dealing big damage against larger HP Pokemon. Adventuring Lanterns are for searching for Basic Fire Energy and Basic Lightning Energy. The Energy Retrievals are there to recycle Basic Energy from the discard pile into your hand.
I don't think you need to make many changes to this deck. You could play this 40 card preconstructed deck as is. You could make room for 1 Heatmor. This is for dealing against the Masquerain Bug Out deck. One Fire Energy for 30 damage then times two for Grass weakness for that matchup.
Closing Notes
Having an idea of the prerelease decks before you attend one does help. That way, you do not go in totally blind. Prereleases should be casual and non-serious. However there are some stores out there that have competitive prizing with prerelease events. It could be something like a pack per round win, you win packs if you win at least 2 out of 3 best of one rounds, and so on.
The easiest deck to use on paper I think is Magmortar then Enamorus deck, Kommo-o deck and then the Bug Out Masquaerain deck. Enamorus deck seems like it has the best matchup spread with potential to deal big damage to players who get lucky and have Pokemon ex or Mega Pokemon ex in their decks.
Deck upgrades and modifications can boost the consistency and/or power of a deck. This is in theory. In a lot of cases, players that have Mega Pokemon ex in their decks are favoured to win. You still have to play well and have good luck.
At prerelreases, the player base at these events can vary. The player mix can include regular players, high-level players, newer players and collector types. The regular players and high-level players should (ideally) help out new players and maintain proper game state. Everyone wants the cards early at the end of the day and have an enjoyable time.
I do plan a prerelease blog for Delta Reign as I have one booked soon.
Thank you for reading.
