Hi there. I do a deck profile on Ethan's Typhlosion.
I might have covered this deck in the past but it is worth covering this deck. Although it is not a popular deck nor does it win big tournaments, it does get some sneaky good results.
Note: This post is long.
The main attacker is Ethan's Typhlosion. To get to the Typhlosion, you need the Cyndaquil and Quilava. Ethan's Adventure helps too.
Ethan's Adventure helps with fetching more of the Ethan's Pokemon and Fire energy. More Ethan's Adventure cards in the discard pile fuels up the attack of Ethan's Typhlosion.
Having 3 Ethan's Adventure in the discard pile yields to 220 damage from the Typhlosion. This damage amount knocks out most Basic Pokemon ex.
Four Ethan's Adventure in the discard pile yields 280 damage. This knocks out most Stage 1 Pokemon ex but has not enough damage against Stage 2 Pokemon ex.
The Ethan's Typhlosion line is pretty good. It does need a boost from other cards in order to boost firepower and/or consistency.
Drakloak is the draw engine in this deck. See 2 top cards, put 1 in hand. (Other to bottom)
Victini for more firepower.
Shaymin to protect Benched non Pokemon ex from bench hitting attacks.
Redeemable Ticket is for the case when 1 or 2 of your Ethan's Adventure is prized.
Brave Bangle is for more firepower against Pokemon ex such as Dragapult ex.
Gravity Mountain reduces the HP of Stage 2 Pokemon like Dragapult ex, Blaziken ex, Mega Greninja ex, etc.
When it comes to the ACE SPEC option, Secret Box is good. You can get the Stadium you need, the Supporter Card you need, one Item card and one tool card. The discard 3 cards can be helpful in some cases when you need more Ethan's Adventure in the discard pile.
Other ACE SPECs that could be used are Legacy Energy and the ever so popular Unfair Stamp.
Here are a few good decklists from this Ethan's Typhlosion archetype. There are not many but there are so useable ones.
This Ethan's Typhlosion first got some attention from this decklist from the Utrecht Regional from Yasmin Kiss. She plays the deck archetype again with a slightly modified list at the Special Event Turin on June 6, 2026.

For the Stadiums, there are 2 Battle Cages and 1 Gravity Mountain.
Since Ethan's Typhlosion is not a very popular deck, the main pieces for this deck should be fairly available and inexpensive. You can also catch some lower level opponents off guard. They may not know the exact decklist and certain cards you play. This can be a good beginner competitive rogue deck.
Fire is not a popular typing right now. With more and more grass decks with Hydrapple ex and Teal Mask Ogerpon ex out there and the odd Crustle rogue decks, fire is a good counter type.
Ethan's Typhlosion hitting 220 damage or 280 damage when there are 3 or 4 Ethan's Adventure in the discard pile is powerful. 220 damage is good against Big Basic Pokemon ex decks.
The Ethan's Quilava has a powerful ability that lets you search for Ethan's Adventure from your deck.
Add Brave Bangle, Gravity Mountain and Kieran if you need the damage boost against Pokemon ex or even Stage 2 Mega Pokemon ex.
As Fire is weak to Water, do watch out for Water attackers. There are not many but watch out for the Wellspring Mask Ogerpon ex or Mega Starmie ex that shows up every once in a while.
Prizing at least 1 Ethan's Adventure in your prizes hurts the firepower of Ethan's Typhlosion. In addition, prizing multiple Ethan's Typhlosion hurts your firepower and the amount of attackers. Redeemable Ticket sort of helps.
This Ethan's Typhlosion deck is kind of slow in setup. Aggressive decks may auto win against you especially if your setup is non existent.
Dragapult ex decks are #1 in popularity by a lot. Almost 40% metagame share (disgusting). The matchup I think is okay as both decks are slow in setup. Do watch out for Unfair Stamp. Beware of Dusknoirs if they play them.
I do recommend this deck for beginners but do be mindful that good sequencing is needed to make the deck run smooth and hit hard. Resource management is important.
I think when Destined Rivals was released, Ethan's Typhlosion was kind of hyped up. Then the hype died down. The issues for the deck back then was the amount of Iono for hand disruption and Gardevoir ex decks.
With hand disruption not as common but still impactful, Ethan's Typhlosion decks are a good alternative when so many players are playing Dragapult ex decks plus some Grass decks out there.
I think Ethan's Typhlosion is favoured in a lot of decks that are not Dragapult ex and has an okay matchup against Dragapult ex. You do have to manage resources carefully and have good sequencing when playing cards in order.
Thank you for reading.
