While going through the 'New' posts on Steemit this morning I came across the excellent 
Twitter: I still dislike it, I've far too much to say to be restricted to only 140 characters. The latest activity by Twitter is probably even more annoying, messaging me what other people are doing is not going to encourage me to use Twitter more if anything it irritates.
Facebook: I joined because everyone else did although I signed up fairly late in the game.
I hate it. No, honestly I do. As my friend and Co-Host Matt once said "Facebook is for people to post pictures of their ugly baby on." and he's right along with people who apparently have the most fantastic lives imaginable even though they work at the local discount store. Facebook is the one account I would love to delete, but sadly four or five friends have an account on there and will not move which means if I left I would lose touch with them, so I keep the stupid service going.
Identi.ca: This has to be the first love of most of the Open Source community. While it too was limited to 140char I didn't seem to mind that limitation I invested four years of my life, love, sweat and tears in that service until sadly it closed in December 2012 just prior to its closure I was fortunate enough to interview the key developer and creator of Identi.ca Evan Prodromou on The Dick Turpin Road Show in an episode titled On a burning bus which was aptly titled given Evan knew Identi.ca was collapsing, everyone was giving him grief as he tried to save the thing while it went down in flames full of passengers. Not that he'll read it, but I still love you Evan. ♥
Google Plus: Around the time Identi.ca was in freefall I joined G+ and loved it. The service gave me (I thought) everything I desired. Integration with Google Images and drive, communities, and pages. I was happy with over 2K followers and argued bitterly with anyone who dared say that Google was barren or was about to shut down any minute and then @Steevc mentioned Steemit and everything changed. I have to be fair and say that I was starting to lose interest in Google Plus at the time, so that meant I was more susceptible at looking for another home.
Steemit: I've been a member of the Steemit community for just over three months now, and I love every minute of it. I certainly check my account every day all day. Like most people, the shock of earning a few dollars went to my head initially, and I would look at my account every few minutes like some demented stock market broker to see if a few more cents had rolled off the table into my coffers. Fortunately, so far, I have resisted posting stuff that's designed to gain lots of micro payments. For me, Steemit is not so much about the money and more about the community which, in theory, should be supportive of each other regarding content produced and rewards gained. There will be some growing pains, and like all families, there will be some falling out but given the freshness of Steemit I can only see a bright future ahead with some fantastic and exciting features being added along the way.
