The company I work for provides Maintenance Contracts to its customers. Now there is a big difference between a Maintenace Contract and a Support Contract, in fact, the word "Support" is a very dangerous term in business because you can guarantee the End-User has a totally different idea as to what that entails to what you think it does. For our Maintenace Contracts it means if anything goes wrong with your hardware we will fix or replace it, we will also reinstall your operating systems (And more than likely any applications you might have) but in the strict letter of the contract we're not here to tell you how to merge a document, create a spreadsheet or "How do I open this pdf thing?" if you need that kind of service then you're looking for a Support Contract which can be fairly expensive which is why most of our customers go for the Maintenance type and then 'Try it on'.
Caller: "Hi, I've been sent a link by someone on LinkedIN. I know who they are but I'm worried about it."
Me: "Is this your personal account?"
[Clearing of the throat and what sounds like shuffling of feet]
Caller: "Oh, no, it's works. I know the guy but it says they've sent a link to a OneDrive download."
Me: "Is this an email? Those messages are usually emails?"
Caller: "No, no, it's through LinkedIN"
Me: "So there's nothing wrong with your compter then? You've not infected it?"
Caller: "No, no, I just want you to help me with it."
😱Me: "You can do two things; either get in touch with the sender and ask them if they did send it or just ignore/delete it. In my experience, if you ignore it and it's legitimate the sender will come on screaming that you haven't responded to which you can explain why and if they don't call you complaining you know it was dodgy."
Caller: "Oh, OK. I'll get in touch with them."
