"What on earth is OggCamp?" I hear you ask. Basically it is an Open Source unconference. OggCamp is something you really should be interested in because it celebrates everything that Steemit does. Community, Freedom, Inclusion and the chance to meet awesome inspiring people, plus Steemians are actually using FREE SOFTWARE every day, Steemit is Open Source Software!
"OK Pete, what's an unconference then?" so it's a bit like a conference but without any cast-in-concrete structure. There are a good number of talks scheduled over the two days ranging from "How I used to rob banks" by my good friend freakyclown to things such as the Raspberry Pi and coding but for me my favourite part is hooking up with all the friends I've made over the years and the chance to make new ones. It really is a good way to swap ideas and knowledge and, if you want, learn something new. OggCamp is generally opened with a keynote speach on a Linux/FOSS/Freedom theme and then it's off to one of the various rooms for an intercative talk/demonstartion on a subject you like or would like to learn more about.
"So why should I go?" Because there's bound to be something there to interest you even if you're a complete technophobe. One of the features of OggCamp is the ability for you to offer to give a talk of your own on whatever subject you like. You simply write your name, subject and prefered time on a post-it note and stick it on the board, subject to people voting on it you will be allocated a room and all the help and resources you need to make your presentation enjoyable by the awesome OggCamp Crew. Personally, I'm not qualified, but I think 
"I don't think my partner would be interested." As I said, there's something there for everyone, even the youngsters. We have people of all ages and interests attend. There's generally (But not always) a free lunch provided and there's also a social event of one form or another arranged for the Saturday night. Friday night is the Pre-event party which is always lots of fun with lots of alcohol and on Sunday is the prize draw where lots of prizes are offered via a raffle. One of my funniest memories is when they ran out of prizes one year and gave away a tin of spam from the local supermarket! And who doesn't want to win a tin of spam?
