The other night, I was anxiously waiting for the scheduled final interview over the phone. I was pacing back and forth worried about a variety of things. It was probably the longest agonizing wait of my life. I waited and waited. I waited and saw. I looked at the clock, it was already past the schedule. And then boom, I've been stood up.
It was really disappointing. For a moment, I stopped believing in good things. I lost my faith in humanity.
I mean you know, that was bad. They kept me hanging there. I was conditioning my mind to be normal for a few minutes. I just wanted to get it over with. And then they didn't call. I didn't get any notice or anything. I started thinking that maybe the company found someone else or whatever. It was not the first time I was ghosted by HR anyway. And to be honest, it was an unprofessional thing for them to do. But there could be a million other reasons so I didn't want to take this personally. I just stopped expecting. Maybe the job wasn't for me after all.
I needed to move on so I applied and got interviewed for other jobs. And then the HR called again apologizing for not attending the interview. It turned out that the manager who was supposed to conduct the final interview was trapped in a very important meeting. I had to believe of course. I agreed to be rescheduled - because what can an unemployed person do at this point? I badly needed a job to survive this pandemic and I'm the one at their mercy anyway. And maybe, I thought, they would find another way to compensate.
So, the interview went quite well and I think I did great. I was able to explain the gaps on my resume without making myself look like I am not committed professionally. Or that I am unstable in life (this is our secret). They asked me about my past work experiences and how I am preparing myself to go back to the corporate world. And of course, I showed them that I am really passionate about this job. And that they don't really have much of a choice in this region (Does this sound conceited?).
The day before yesterday, I was just going about my day when HR called me again. My mind was racing. But thankfully, it was good news! So, after making me jump through hoops and all the wait, I got the job finally.
Faith in humanity restored.
Yesterday, they asked me to come to the office so I can start doing all the paperwork and fill out all these forms like taxes, social security, medical clearance, and all.
Today I am celebrating. I bought wine and gave my cat some wet food. I am going to hang out with a few friends later.
I believe we need to celebrate the small victories in this bittersweet journey called life.
Many thanks to y'all for following my job-hunting story. I appreciate all the virtual support and encouragement. And even if I am back to work, pretending to be normal out there, I will still try my best to blog and share with you my unfiltered thoughts, crazy stories and of course, this new adventure.
