Greetings, friends and fellow members of this great Hive community! Today, I am pleased to share a new drawing I’ve created. As is my daily routine, this piece is inspired by one of the cards from the game Rising Star. The card I chose for today features a musical instrument: the vuvuzela—specifically, card R173, "Vuvuzela." It is a wind instrument, part of the trumpet and cornet family. It has no keys or finger holes; in fact, it produces only a single note, though its volume can be varied. Creating music with it depends entirely on the rhythm set by the performer. Now, let me show you how I went about creating this drawing. I hope you enjoy it! First, I drew the frame, which turned out like this:
Next, I sketched the full silhouette of the vuvuzela. It features an elongated body that flares out at the end—a characteristic typical of cornets.
Since the vuvuzela doesn't have many intricate internal details, I was able to start coloring right away. I began with the frame, which I painted yellow. I chose this color because the original card incorporates several hues, and I wanted to select some that would evoke its design.
For the next step, I colored the outer background—a light shade of red. I felt this was a great choice, as it is the most prominent color on the original card and creates a striking contrast with the yellow.
Once the outer background was finished, I moved on to the inner background. I started by painting the wave-like shape at the bottom in blue, followed by a light-blue border around the entire instrument. This border ensures the drawing doesn't blend into the background, helping it stand out more effectively. The inner background is a very dark blue, which I always save for the final stage of the coloring process.
The next elements I painted were the vuvuzela, which I colored orange. Once the base color was filled in, I added some visual details—such as a darker shade for the flared end—and some highlights along the body of the instrument.
To wrap things up, here is the finished drawing; in this final step, I added the name of the card and the game. What do you think? I look forward to reading your comments. Thank you so much for checking out my post—see you soon with a new drawing!
