Good morning, dear friends of Rising Star. I'm happy to be back with you all here on Hive. Today I'm going to show you the drawing I did of a musical instrument found on one of the game's cards. It's the R45 Mandolin card. As you can see, this card belongs to the rare card section. It has the number R45, which means it's a classic in the game, one of the first ones released when it started. That's why it's special to paint it today.
The mandolin is a small guitar, perhaps a distant cousin of the Spanish guitars I've painted here before. It stands out for being more compact and having a very distinctive shape; it doesn't have the classic S-shape, but rather a teardrop shape. Now I'm going to show you the whole process so you can see how I made the drawing from beginning to end. I hope you like it. The first thing I did was paint the card's frame.
Once the frame was finished, I drew the mandolin's arm, and then its body, which is teardrop-shaped as I mentioned before. If you look at this drawing, you'll see I chose to paint the mandolin from the front rather than the side. I decided to paint it this way because I wanted to create perspective in this fan art of the original drawing.
In the third step, I drew the headstock on top of the neck. In this case, I didn't draw the tuning pegs; I'll do that later once I start painting.
Now then. At this point, I could start painting because the sketch was finished. I used a color palette quite similar to the original card, with orange, red, and blue predominating. I started with the outer background in orange, the frame in red, and the inner background in blue. The mandolin is also orange, but lighter to contrast with the background. In the final painting step, I added details such as the strings and the opening of the sound box, among other aesthetic touches. I’ve included photos showing the entire process.
And to wrap things up for now, here is the final result. I hope you enjoyed it. Have a great day, everyone. Please share your thoughts. Blessings.
