I am not a big fan of banana, but it doesn't mean I hate them. I like to eat banana, when I feel I want to, but on several occasion, they are not something that I am fond of.
As a person who lives in Indonesia, a tropical country, we have plenty of banana here. We have vast variety of banana, with each has their own distinctive feats. Some taste sweet, some are bitter. Some are best eaten directly, some are better you cook or fry them.
Almost every week I have some banana as part of my meal nor snack. I usually buy them from street food stalls, which I pay around five thousands rupiah to ten thousands rupiah for a paper bag full of them. It's around a half USD, I hope this currency will give you better picture about how much they are. They are mostly sold as deep fried ones, either as a plain banana to flavored ones.
There is a variety that we call it as Pisang Tanduk, or Horn Banana. Personally I take that as the best one for a fried banana, but I rarely get them because it is pricey. I need around two USD to get some of them. One day if I get them again, I will share them on ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY, not on this mildly infuriating one lol.
And there are some banana that I dislike... for example this one:
They look fancy, right? They do, and they cost me around five USD. It is one of the most expensive banana I have this year, and they taste like shit... lol
Honestly It tasted like shit because I hated them from the moment I saw them on the menu book. I was in a cafe and I needed to have some semi casual talk with a client. So everything was on me, and that shit banana was the cheapest among all... I did not need any expensive calamari or some fruit pies.
I counted the banana and I believed basically they were only two banana, sliced into three slices each, then deep fried them. Put some garnish above them and served them with some sugar sauce. How much the raw ingredient for this? I bet it was less than half a dollar lol.
Let me recap this, two things that I could say why I did not like this banana. First the taste was not great, the chef must be caring only for their look, and I believed only a bunch of silly gen-Z would buy the presentation. Second thing was the value added price. It was not worth for the money at all. I expected to get some shitty banana with 5 USD in this cafe, but not with that small amount... it was like ripping off people money lol.
Anyway I wish them luck, a real great luck in future... as the cafe is not selling well, they are only thriving because they have one of the best location.
