Hello, friends especially foodies!
Last Friday, I accompanied mom to the hospital. She got her glucose blood test twice and also we had our 3rd dosage of Covid vaccination that day and later in the afternoon she needed to meet her doctor to get her monthly control. But before met her doctor we went to one of our favorite Indonesian food restaurant which was a branch of the same restaurant in Surabaya, East Java.
THE OUTLOOK OF THE RESTAURANT
When we arrived there at almost 11 am, the restaurant was still empty. And we straightly went to their second floor dining area.
THE DINING AREA
The dining area on the second floor was quite large, even had air conditioners, it also had some fresh air from their opened windows. This area was clean and neat.
And no need to worry about the hygienic here, they even gave a glass of hot water to sterilize the cutlery..
THE MENU
There they served Authentic Heritage Indonesian especially the dishes from East Java, they had some food menus like kind of rice
• Krawu Rice, actually the menu originated from Gresik, a small industry city in East Java
• Pecel Rice, originated from Madiun, a city in East Java
• Urap Rice, the seasoning was made from gritted coconut
• Rames Rice (Indonesian Mixed Rice)
• Box rice
And they also had other dishes
• Garang Asem (Chicken or Meat), with the clear sour savory soup
• Rawon, Black beef soup from Surabaya, East Java
• Fried Egg Tofu
• Gado-gado siram Surabaya, with the melted peanut paste, which was different from Jakartanese
• Lontong Cap Gomeh
• Lontong Sayur
• Sour Vegetable Soup
• Soup
Plus they also had variants of smashed chicken, beef empal, meatballs even seafood, grilled chicken even opor chicken. Great thing that they had our authentic side dishes called botok, because not many places have it nowadays.
THE FOOD & THE OUTLOOK
Here were the food we had last Friday
Looked so yummy, right?
Could you guess what we had that day?
THE TASTE & THE FLAVOUR
Now let me share how did our food taste
RAMES RICE (INDONESIAN MIXED RICE)
Rames rice was authentic Indonesian, it contained some dishes like what we had from left to right:
• Daging Bumbu Rujak (Beef in Rojak Paste) – it had sweet, savory and a bit spicy flavour. The texture was soft and it was so tasty.
• Petis Egg (Boiled egg with the shrimp paste sauce) – it had sweet light flavour with the green jenky bean on the top, authentic!
• Sambal Goreng Ati (Chicken liver stirred with spicy chilli paste) – it had the mixture of flavour between savory, sweet and a bit spicy. The texture of the liver were soft and we loved it much!
• Chicken Opor – it had savory and sweet flavour. With soft tasty texture, yummy!
• Labu Siam (stirred chayote) – it had authentic flavour of spicy, savory and a bit sweet. The chayote slices were soft and well cooked.
And it served with tasty sambal (chilli paste) – spicy and sweet, it had tasty authentic flavour. This one is a must try menu you should have!
TOFU TEMPEH BOTOK (in Javanese we said it Bothok)
Maybe you don’t familiar with this side dish. A bit introduction for you, Botok is a traditional Javanese dish which made from shredded coconut flesh which has been squeezed of its coconut milk, often mixed with other ingredients such as vegetables or fish (there they mixed it with tofu, tempeh and salted fish), and all those main ingredients wrapped in banana leaf and steamed. It had the mixture of flavour between spicy and savory. It was smooth and so tasty. Another side dish you should try! I think when you come to visit my country, you need to try our bothok too.
THE PRICE
After finished our early lunch, we paid, it was 92K IDR or around 6.5 USD for two portions of their tasty rames rice, a portion of the botok and also a bottle of mineral water. How do you think about the price?
Thanks for reading my article, hope you enjoy it and stay tune for more CRAFT things from me!
