Hello, friends especially foodies!
Both mom and I were born in Jakarta, and this city had many kind of tasty dishes that you should try. One we had was last Saturday, after the tasty dimsum brunch, we then had walked around, bought things we needed then we felt hungry again. We went to a shopping center which we don’t usually go, so there we were a bit confused, where to had the lunch? In our confuseness, we passed through a restaurant which sold Authentic Dishes from our city, but maybe you said? How do you know that this restaurant served Jakarta Authentic Dishes? We know that from the name of the restaurant, Betawi, which referred to the tribe that originally came from our city, Jakarta.
THE OUTLOOK OF THE RESTAURANT
It had an open area of restaurant in the shopping center. With the bamboo fences like you could see. It was quite popular cause they had quite many customers even after 1 pm.
THE DINING AREA
It had a quite large dining area, with wooden furniture, the area was cozy and we picked our seats far away from the others. The area was clean and neat.
Our table next to a mirrored wall so we could take a photo like below there. I thought it was quite esthetique.
THE MENU
Here were some menus that they had
They had Betawi Soto, Rawon with Rice (Black beef soup), Lontong Cap Gomeh (Rice cake with many dishes in coconut milk soup), Soto Mie (Noodle Soto), Uduk Rice with Beef Semur, Presto Chicken and Sour Vegetables Soup with Rice, Gado-gado, Ketoprak, Variants of Fried Rice, Chicken Satay. Plus they also had some rare authentic menus like Rujak Juhi (Squid Rojak) or just Vegetables Asinan.
They also had two packages of rice menu which came with the mineral water.
Guess what we ordered?
If you have followed my account and often read my article, you maybe already know what’s mom favorite dish which was Jakarta authentic dish? A bit clue, it had authentic peanut paste and only available in our city.. While mine, actually it is a national dish, which you could find in any cities in our country, it had rice as its’ main ingredient.
THE FOOD & THE OUTLOOK
Here were what we had
I know now you could know what they were, Mom’s was Rujak Juhi (Squid Rojak) while mine was their Fried Rice Package.
THE TASTE & THE FLAVOUR
Let me started to share my menu
KAMPOENG FRIED RICE
The rice stirred with some toppings like egg, salted fish, and beansprouts. It also served with fried chips, sliced cucumber, raw cabbage, sunny side up egg and also mendoan tempeh. The rice had savory flavour and a bit fishy. The egg had light savory flavour. And the tempeh had savory flavour. Not my taste of tasty fried rice, cause it felt so fishy for me. So this menu was a NAY for me… Now let me tell you how was mom’s..
RUJAK JUHI (SQUID ROJAK)
It contained noodle, fried tofu, boiled potato, lettuce, sliced cucumber, baked squid and also melinjo chips. The authentic peanut paste was so tasty with the sweet, spicy and savory flavour. It served chilled. And the problem was they didn’t use high quality of noodle so it became hardened because they put it in the fridge after cooked it. Even the noodle was bad, overall this menu was great and much better than mine.
THE PRICE
It costed us 102,795 IDR or around 7.2 USD for our lunch, and it was included a small bottle of mineral bottle.
Wanna try the authentic menus by yourselves?
