I cleared my point about the "building things for name". And that kind of opened up a new set of can of worms in my life. Because now the thing is most of the stuff that we do are about our family which we pass on. But in real life we have to do our own name too. Contributing to the society brings such name value.
I moved onto new and different things where the name related or say achievement related things is what I am looking out for. Another thing is that if you consider the right way to bring the change in your life, is when you do things with intention.
So like that I want to explain how you can bring the change by contributing to the open source.
So let's follow some of the steps.
You need to have some skill. Be it writer of some documentation, making font, writing code, designing something. All of those skills eventually pay off. And that would also be something you can build upon and then that would become the foundation.
Contribution means you are doing something. You have to find out the issues in the places and the things that would turn out some sort of the issues. Some of those can be pretty difficult to find at first but you can find them.
Take example of Code Triage where you can find new issues every single day.
You can do the contribution to the specific issues. Make sure to log them in and also move ahead with the contribution. Some of those add up and also it would make things easier for you to put up on portfolio and github streak. You can read about that here and here.
You can also read more in depth about the contribution here.
You have to also pick the licenses or go with the license of the project. Either way you have something in your hands to call it as your right. So in such case I'd say you should check the page here for learning more.
Team work? You don't see the people you work with on the online open source projects. So learn the communication skills and also learn how to take work, contribute and move on. All of those skills work out and that kind of adds up on your grand resume some day.
Your work should appear in the waffle chart of the Gihub like below image.
Visibility is something you need to work on because by doing that you would be able to get jobs and in my case, getting my name out there for few more years. So that is something I am working harder on.
Contributing to the open source is a good feeling. And putting your name on the internet for years is another good feeling. And if you continue work harder and put the work on internet and it gets indexed. Expect a good name out there in the world.
