I've been working on something very unique for Snapie, something that I suspect has not been tried before on Hive. I say "suspect" because if someone did, they may not have made enough noise for me to notice, so I can't be too sure.
So what is this grandiose plan, I hear you asking, typing, thinking, somethening? Well, patronage. Patronage? You chuckle in dismissal, I see.
Rolling up my sleeves—open source seems to work with this model, and honestly, it's about time I stop trying to reinvent the wheel. When people like something, when people use something, some of those people (not all, obviously) feel inspired, compelled, behooved (can I use that word here?), to send some love to the team, or the dude in this case, who is working on it.
Now, the trick, the balance that is hard to find, is how to motivate people to do so without penalizing those who don't. If I start paywalling stuff, then this is not going to make anyone happy. Thus, I'm not thinking of doing that at all. After all, it's open source. You could spin up your own Snapie, call it Stealie, and what do you need me for?
The hope is, however, that through this mechanism of give and take, I can find the audience, and thus the support, so that I can continue to build without worrying too much about bread. Figuratively speaking, of course. But also not.
In short: Every patron gives me a little more time to spend building features instead of chasing other work.
So what can you do? What do you need to do if you want some fancy badges and recognition from the adoring crowds?
Well, simple. You go to snapie.io and click on "Support Snapie." There you will find preciseously what you can do. Yes, preciseously is a new word. Let's use it.
I think 's idea of also listing the newest patrons on the landing page—on the right menu, to be clear—makes a lot of sense too.
But anyway, to the point, to the meat and potatoes.
Help me continue my work. Get a fancy badge.
Love,
