Carmen era una mujer sencilla, trabajadora, además de ser madre soltera, puesto que su esposo murió cuando ella aún llevaba en su vientre a su tercer hijo. Al principio contó con el apoyo de su familia para criar a los niños, luego se vio obligada a independizarse, le dijeron que hora de hacerse cargo de sus hijos.
La madre al escuchar aquello se sintió sola y rechazada, se dijo así misma que nunca buscaría la ayuda de nadie, se llenó resentimiento y rencor para solventar los gastos de su casa, tuvo hasta tres trabajos, aunque las tareas del hogar las repartió entre sus hijos, siempre se sentía agotada y abatida por vida.
Con el tiempo, Carmen consiguió trabajar en una empresa cuyo salario le permitió mantener adecuadamente a sus hijos, además disfrutar de tiempo libre para estar con ellos, pero un día la empresa trasladó sus instalaciones a otra ciudad, a la mujer le dieron dos opciones: mudarse con ellos o pasar a la fila de los desempleados.
Tuvo miedo del cambio tan drástico que iba a dar, sin embargo, tomo la decisión de irse y se marchó. Al principio no lograba adaptarse a la comunidad donde viviría, puesto que la mayoría de los vecinos se ayudaban entre sí, esto le causo repulsión y desconfianza y decidió aislarse.
Cierta madrugada, Carmen siente un calor extremo que la sofoca, se despierta asustada, observa como el humo va entrando por la rendija de la puerta de su cuarto, corre a buscar a sus hijos, pero los vecinos acudieron a su auxilio a penas vieron arder la casa en llamadas. Los bomberos lograron extinguir completamente el incendio, después de lo ocurrido la mujer quedó desbastada, perdió casi todo lo que tenía, el fuego se lo arrebato en un santiamén.
En los días subsiguientes, Carmen, se sentía agradecida, de poder contar con aquellos vecinos, tan colaboradores, quienes no solamente habían salvado a sus hijos, sino también la ayudaron a restaurar su vivienda, además una pareja de ancianos, les dio hospedaje en su casa, a partir de allí aquella madre entendió el sentido de la solidaridad.
Carmen was a simple, hard-working woman, as well as a single mother, since her husband died when she was still carrying her third child. At first, she was unable to adapt to the community where she would live, since most of the neighbors helped each other, this caused her repulsion and mistrust, and she decided to isolate herself.
Early one morning, Carmen felt an extreme heat that suffocated her, she woke up frightened, she saw how the smoke was coming through the crack in the door of her room, she ran to look for her children, but the neighbors came to her aid as soon as they saw the house burning. The firemen managed to extinguish the fire completely, after what happened the woman was devastated, she lost almost everything she had, the fire took it away in a jiffy.
In the following days, Carmen felt grateful to be able to count on those neighbors, so cooperative, who had not only saved her children, but also helped her restore her home, as well as an elderly couple, who gave them lodging in their home, from then on that mother understood the meaning of solidarity.
