I attended a government secondary school namely (U.M.C.A Comprehensive High School).
The school is not really standard, you know, Naija government schools in rural areas. One day, I made the decision to change from being a science student to an art student, not knowing that I was going to join a group of hoodlums and students with no future ambitions.
My class, the Art class, was the worst from SS1 to SS3 because no teacher ever used their full period in my class. Either the teacher left the class angrily, and we all ran after him begging him to come back, but even after he did, we would still return to our noise-making. It got to a point where the principal had to move us from our classroom to another building entirely.
The place was an old building that had turned into a public toilet; we constantly inhaled the smell of urine and defecation for many weeks before the odor died down. No teacher was ready to enter our class.
Another crazy thing is that the new classroom is close to the bush; therefore, once it is 2 PM, almost 80% of my classmates have gone home, and I get tired. Then I composed a fine letter to the principal, pleading that he return us to our normal classroom, promising that we wouldn't make noise or cause trouble again.
He did, after a few weeks, and we were back in our classroom. But it only got worse because in my class, we had a group of bad singers, a group of gossipers, and lovers' gossip mates, and it seems only two of us in my class are serious. Once it's past break time, the singers start singing their rubbish, especially songs about hunger and getting food; then the comedians will start. I hardly have time to read; my classroom is an entertainment center.
The principal got tired and took a very serious step: he told me to write the names of noise makers to him every day. I did it very well, made sure I persuaded teachers to come and teach my class, and also begged my classmates to cooperate, and it worked.
This happened in SS 3, first term and second term because we were soon to write WAEC. I can never forget my classmates' set; it is really an odd class - full of entertainment.
