We were in class one particular Wednesday afternoon, waiting for the teacher to come and teach us and, at the same time, hoping that the teacher wouldn't come. Then, suddenly, we started seeing teachers walking quickly, the type that appears as if one is running but is actually walking, heading towards the administration block. We knew something was wrong, but we couldn't figure out what. Our class was SS2 and, as such, we weren't allowed to step out of the class by our seniors, who occupied the next two classrooms. So, we were only forcing our heads out through the windows to see if we could figure out what was wrong in the school that made all the teachers assemble in the administration quarters, as if they had sold the school and were taking their shares.
Suddenly, we saw the disciplinary team of the school walking towards our classroom with logs of canes in their hands. We rushed back to our seats to maintain decorum.
"Where is Eric?" one of the teachers asked after we greeted them in unison.
"He hasn't been in class since after the first lecture period of the day," the assistant prefect answered.
"If you like, hide him. Every one of you is going to feel the heat. Whenever you see him, do not hesitate to report to the nearest teacher," the teacher said as a warning, and they walked away.
We knew we were in another hot soup because the guy they came looking for was one of the "big boys" in class who controlled the major 'non-academic' related things in the class.
Later that day, information circulated that the guy whom the school authorities were looking for had come to school with a pistol that day and planned to hunt down one of our troublesome teachers, who always took issues concerning our class personally.
"Gun? A pistol? How did he come about that?"
Everyone was confused and surprised at the same time. We knew that the guy was a "terror," but we never thought of him coming to school with a pistol. Fgs! This happened in the early 2000s, and pistols or anything of such a nature were not as common as they are these days.
The police were involved in the case, and the students who had strong faces were picked up by the police in a bid to calm the situation. Thankfully, I had a very innocent face, so I wasn't picked up. 馃槀
Our set/class was labelled as the most dangerous set in the school.
