1 July 2026, Freewriters Community Daily Writing Prompt Day 3151: no!
Ten-year-old Glendella Ludlow was still getting to know her Ludlow cousins turned adoptive siblings, and at any time any one of them could be her favorite, but …
“My soul brother is basically Grayson – you can't get him to stick around for foolishness!”
“I love that you got up and went out the window at your house,” six-year-old Grayson Ludlow had said about how she had started her journey to his family. “I just wish I had been there so that I could have built you a Lego stairway.”
But, opportunity arose …
“All I'm saying is,” nine-year-old George Ludlow was saying as he and his nine-year-old best friend Milton Trent were walking through the Ludlow house on their way to being grounded again, “by the time we strap the soapy sponges to our shoes and butts, these hardwood floors are going to be a snap.”
Grayson packed out his little red wagon with Legos and went to the window where Glendella and Eleanor were sharing a room, and then just got busy building.
“Excuse me, new sis, but, you're going to want to come out of there and hang out in the Lee home with me,” he said as he tapped on the window. “George and Milton are going to be putting sponges on their butts and sliding across the living room floor.”
“They what?” Capt. R.E. Ludlow said as he overheard that and came running from the yard.
Glendella opened the window and Grayson handed her his quick-build staircase so she could walk up and get her legs over the windowsill more easily, and then threw the stairs down and jumped down onto the stairs to walk down to the ground.
“Gottagobye,” Grayson said as the noise started inside the Ludlow and Trent homes as Mrs. Melissa Trent came running from two doors down – “Milton, where are my sponges!”
“Because, no!” Glendella said as they took the wagon, the Legos, and themselves to the peace of the Lees' big puzzle room.
