On a daily basis, fashion designers are saddled with the duties of ensuring that they put a smile on the faces of their customer by producing the exact design that suits their style. It is the joy of every fashion designer, or tailor as it is popularly called in Nigeria to see that they give their customers the exact style that they request for. Customer's satisfaction is the motivation that keeps every business growing, and not only do you retain your customer, they also speak to other people about your services, leading to more sales for you.

Life as a fashion designer is not an easy one, just like any other job but due to the fact that we make people look adorable with our skills, we enjoy every bit of what we do. On a typical day, we spend most of the hours sitting down using machines and I'm sure you can relate to the back pain, leg pain and the likes associated with sitting for too long if your work warrants you to sit down most of the time. However, we also stand at some point when we want to take measurements or cut the materials into pieces on the cutting table. Then, strolling is an option too when you feel you've sitted for long or when you want to visit a nearby restaurant for lunch.

Over the past weeks, I have had encounter with different types of customers and I'm must say that it really takes a lot of patience to relate with human beings. I have met people who speak to you in a polite way till the end of the their stay without any cause for alarm while some others are troublemakers that needs a cool head to relate with them. Customers are always right, you know? So, as a business owner that render service to different kinds of people, it is necessary to be courteous and not be rude to your customers, especially if you want to be long in the game. Something I discovered is that most customers decide to be hard on service providers because they feel they may disappoint them if they appear to be too soft and this brings me to my next point.

Another interesting part of being a fashion designer is dealing with customers that needs a dress, let's take for instance on Sunday for a program in church and you didn't bring it to the tailor until Friday and you expect your tailor to deliver by Saturday evening. Oops! This is a scenario that plays out frequently in our workshop. The "rush rush" customers - they plead with you, threaten to take their material somewhere else if you tell them the duration is too short.

However, as a business owner that doesn't want to lose a customer, you try all your possible best to deliver at the appropriate time. My boss shared different experiences when she have had to sew all night for "rush rush" customers which have caused some glitches between her and her husband. Apart from not giving your partner the attention he deserves, it is another thing that you have to use the noise from the machine to disturb his precious sleep. But, her husband is understanding and knows it is not something that happens every time - it is once in a while for the special customers that I have tagged the "rush rush" customers.

I took this picture sometimes last week and you can see how stressed I look, coupled with the fact that there was no power supply and our generator set was bad, so the heat was serious. Anyways, we got the generator set fixed shortly after that because most of our work needs power supply, especially for our electric machines and ironing of dresses.

Thank you for your time lovelies.
