Hey lovelies 鉂わ笍
It's your favorite girl debbie-ese@debbie-ese 馃槏
Welcome to my blog 馃

In this post I will be sharing the second set of outfit I made for my customer who is preparing for her mother's burial ceremony that I shared sometimes last week. This outfit is meant to be worn on Sunday for thanksgiving service. It is a gown made with blue coloured cord lace.

The customer was meant to come around for fittings yesterday because she told me she will be travelling this coming week but from the look of things I guessed she gave me a wrong date so that I will be fast with her work and not disappoint her. I have had many of this kind of situation from customers who would give at least two weeks ahead from the actual day they want to use their outfit so as not to hear stories like "sorry, I'm not done with your dress yet."

Materials Needed

  • 3 yards of cord lace fabrics
  • 4 yards of lining
  • 1 yard plain crepe
  • 1 yard of hair stay
  • 录 yard of breast pad
  • Zip
  • Tailoring chalk
  • Matching threads

Measurements

  • Bust - 43"
  • Upper Bust - 39"
  • Under Bust - 14.5"
  • Top Length - 24"
  • Waist - 41.5"
  • Round shoulder circumference - 48"
  • Hip - 45"
  • Full length - 60"

Step by Step

  • First and foremost, fold your fabric into two with the right sides facing each other and begin to draft the pattern for the upper bodice using the bust (43"), underbust (14.5), upper bust (39"), waist (41.5"), top length (24"). I also added 2" additional for seam allowance.

  • Next, cut the front piece and back piece out from the lace fabrics. For zipper allowance, add 1.5" at the centre back. We will be using a zip at the back of the top.

  • Next, spread your lining fabrics on the cutting table and use the front and back pieces of the lace fabric to cut out your lining.

  • Next, draft your shoulders on the lace fabrics, then cut it out and set aside.

  • Next, start to iron your breast pad and interface to the front piece and iron the interface to the back piece as well.

  • Then join the front bodice and back bodice to the front and back lining respectively and after that use the lining to turn the fabric to conceal the stitches and give it a neat finish.

  • Now that you've done that attach the sleeves on the two armholes (left and right).

  • So, after attaching the shoulders just before you close the neckline, fold your plain crepe fabric and draft the collar shape. Cut the collar pieces, add interfacing so that it can maintain its shape and and join them together with right sides facing each other.

  • Then use your pin to position them and sew the collar to the neckline and be sure it is well positioned around the neckline and front.

  • For the skirt part, we will spread the remaining lace fabric on the table and measure from the waist to the full length of 60". Then draft the skirt part on the lace fabrics and also on the lining fabrics.

  • Then cut out the front and back pieces of the skirt, join them together and attach to the bodice.

  • Next, attach your zip and hem the bottom and give it a good press.

  • Then place the dress on your mannequin to check for the fitting and if there's any adjustments needed.
